وأصدرت هيئة الأرصاد الجوية الوطنية تحذيرات من الحرارة الشديدة أو تنبيهات حرارية تشمل 29 ولاية، من نبراسكا إلى ماساتشوستس ومن داكوتا الشمالية إلى فلوريدا، تغطي أكثر من 38% من سكان الولايات المتحدة.
ومن المتوقع أن تصل الحرارة إلى ذروتها اليوم (الإثنين) 28 يوليو 2025، قبل أن تبدأ في الانخفاض تدريجيًا، مع استمرار الأجواء الحارة في جنوب شرق البلاد حتى نهاية الأسبوع أو بداية الأسبوع القادم.
وسجلت درجات الحرارة المرتفعة، المصحوبة برطوبة عالية، أرقامًا قياسية في عدة مناطق، خصوصا في الجنوب الشرقي، فقد بلغت الحرارة في شارلوت بولاية نورث كارولينا 38 درجة مئوية (101 فهرنهايت) يوم السبت، ومن المتوقع أن يتم تحطيم أو معادلة 60 رقمًا قياسيًا آخر خلال الأيام القادمة.
وفي شيكاغو، ستصل درجات الحرارة إلى 32.7 درجة مئوية يوم الإثنين، لكن الرطوبة ستجعل الإحساس بالحرارة يقترب من 38.8 درجة. أما في نيويورك، فمن المتوقع أن تصل الحرارة إلى ذروتها يوم الثلاثاء عند 35.5 درجة مئوية في سنترال بارك، مع إحساس قد يصل إلى 40.5 درجة بسبب الرطوبة، أما في واشنطن فستسجل درجات الحرارة 36.6 درجة يوم الثلاثاء و37.2 درجة يوم الأربعاء.
وأظهرت صور من ميامي بيتش بولاية فلوريدا أطفالًا يلعبون في مناطق رذاذ الماء للتخفيف من وطأة الحرارة، حيث تخضع المنطقة لتحذير من الحرارة الشديدة.
وقال كبير خبراء التنبؤ في مركز التنبؤ الجوي الأمريكي بريان هيرلي: الوضع صعب، لكن النهاية قريبة، بضعة أيام أخرى، وربما أكثر إذا كنت في الجنوب الشرقي.
Wide areas in the central and eastern United States are experiencing a severe heatwave affecting more than 132 million people, with rising humidity levels making conditions even harsher, placing significant pressure on the power grid due to the intensive use of air conditioning and fans.
The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories or warnings covering 29 states, from Nebraska to Massachusetts and from North Dakota to Florida, affecting more than 38% of the U.S. population.
Temperatures are expected to peak today (Monday, July 28, 2025), before beginning to gradually decline, with hot conditions continuing in the southeastern part of the country until the end of the week or the beginning of next week.
High temperatures, accompanied by high humidity, have set record numbers in several areas, especially in the southeast, where temperatures in Charlotte, North Carolina, reached 38 degrees Celsius (101 degrees Fahrenheit) on Saturday, and it is expected that 60 more records will be broken or matched in the coming days.
In Chicago, temperatures will reach 32.7 degrees Celsius on Monday, but humidity will make it feel like 38.8 degrees. In New York, temperatures are expected to peak on Tuesday at 35.5 degrees Celsius in Central Park, with a feel-like temperature reaching 40.5 degrees due to humidity, while in Washington, temperatures will record 36.6 degrees on Tuesday and 37.2 degrees on Wednesday.
Images from Miami Beach, Florida, show children playing in misting areas to alleviate the heat, as the area is under a heat advisory.
Brian Hurley, the chief forecasting expert at the U.S. Weather Prediction Center, said: "The situation is tough, but the end is near, just a few more days, and perhaps longer if you are in the southeast."
