لقي ثمانية أشخاص مصرعهم، وفُقد 31 آخرون، في فيضانات ناجمة عن تساقط الأمطار الغزيرة على سهل في جبال الهيمالايا بين نيبال والصين.
وذكرت مصادر محلية، أن السلطات النيبالية تمكنت من انتشال ثماني جثث، بينما لا يزال 20 شخصاً بينهم ستة صينيين في عداد المفقودين، وفي الجانب الصيني أُدرج 11 شخصاً في عداد المفقودين.
وأضافت أن السلطات المختصة أنقذت 57 شخصاً حتى الآن، مشيرة إلى أن عمليات البحث والإنقاذ لا تزال مستمرة.
يشار إلى أن الفيضانات جرفت أحد الجسور الرئيسية التي تربط النيبال بالصين عبر نهر بوتي كوشي.
وتعتبر الفيضانات وانزلاقات التربة شائعة في جنوب آسيا خلال موسم الفيضانات بين يونيو وسبتمبر، لكن الخبراء يقولون إن تغير المناخ يفاقم هذه الظواهر.
Eight people have died, and 31 others are missing, due to floods caused by heavy rainfall in a plain in the Himalayas between Nepal and China.
Local sources reported that Nepali authorities have managed to recover eight bodies, while 20 people, including six Chinese nationals, are still missing. On the Chinese side, 11 people have been reported missing.
They added that the relevant authorities have rescued 57 people so far, noting that search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
It is worth mentioning that the floods have swept away one of the main bridges connecting Nepal to China across the Bhote Koshi River.
Flooding and landslides are common in South Asia during the monsoon season from June to September, but experts say that climate change is exacerbating these phenomena.
