شهد مطار أوريو آل سيريو الدولي (المعروف باسم مطار ميلانو-بيرغامو) في شمال إيطاليا حادثة مأساوية، حيث لقي رجل يبلغ من العمر 35 عاماً مصرعه بطريقة مروعة، بعد أن ابتلعه محرك طائرة مدنية تابعة لشركة «فولوتيا» الإسبانية منخفضة التكلفة، أثناء استعدادها للإقلاع إلى أستورياس بإسبانيا.
وفقاً لوكالة الأنباء الإيطالية «أنسا» فإن الضحية الذي تم تحديد هويته لاحقاً باسم أندريا روسو، وهو عامل بناء من بلدة كالتشيناتي بالقرب من بيرغامو، لم يكن راكباً أو موظفاً في المطار، ودخل المطار بسيارته التي قادها عكس الاتجاه بالقرب من المحطة، ثم تركها واندفع ركضاً إلى داخل مبنى المطار.
وتمكن الضحية من الوصول إلى منطقة الأمتعة، حيث فتح باباً أمنياً يؤدي مباشرة إلى منطقة وقوف الطائرات، وعلى الرغم من مطاردة شرطة الحدود له، تمكن من الفرار واندفع نحو طائرة «أيرباص A319» تابعة لشركة «فولوتيا»، كانت تقوم بمناورة «الدفع العكسي» للخروج من منطقة الوقوف استعداداً للإقلاع.
وبحسب شهود عيان، فإن روسو «سُحب» إلى أحد محركَي الطائرة التوربينيين اللذين يدوران بسرعة تصل إلى 15000 دورة في الدقيقة، ووقع الحادث خلال دقيقة و55 ثانية فقط من بدء تحرك الطائرة، وفقاً لبيانات «Flightradar24»، وتُوفي روسو على الفور، واستجابت فرق الإطفاء في المطار على الفور، وتم استرداد بقاياه من المحرك.
وأدى الحادث إلى إغلاق المطار مؤقتاً لمدة ساعتين تقريباً، ما تسبب في إلغاء 19 رحلة جوية وتحويل رحلات أخرى إلى مطارات مجاورة، وأُوقفت الرحلة V73511، التي كانت تحمل 154 راكباً و6 من أفراد الطاقم، وتمت إعادة جدولتها لاحقاً بعد تقديم الدعم النفسي للركاب وأفراد الطاقم.
وفتحت الشرطة الإيطالية بالتعاون مع المدعي العام في بيرغامو موريزيو رومانيلي تحقيقاً لفهم ملابسات الحادث. وأشارت مصادر الشرطة إلى أن روسو كان يعاني من «مشاكل متعلقة بالمخدرات»، وتشير التحقيقات الأولية إلى أن الحادث قد يكون انتحاراً، ومع ذلك لم يتم العثور على أي دليل في سيارته يوضح دوافعه، إذ كانت مليئة بـ«مواد متنوعة» لم تقدم تفسيراً واضحاً.
ويُعد مطار بيرغامو، المعروف رسمياً باسم مطار أوريو آل سيريو الدولي، ثالث أكثر المطارات ازدحاماً في إيطاليا، إذ استقبل 17.4 مليون مسافر في 2024، ويُعتبر مركزاً رئيسياً لشركات الطيران منخفضة التكلفة، مثل «رايان أير» و«فولوتيا»، ويخدم بشكل رئيسي مدينة ميلانو القريبة.
The Orio al Serio International Airport (known as Milan-Bergamo Airport) in northern Italy witnessed a tragic incident, where a 35-year-old man was killed in a horrific manner after being swallowed by the engine of a civil aircraft belonging to the Spanish low-cost airline "Volotea," while it was preparing for takeoff to Asturias, Spain.
According to the Italian news agency "ANSA," the victim, later identified as Andrea Russo, a construction worker from the town of Calcinato near Bergamo, was neither a passenger nor an airport employee. He entered the airport in his car, which he drove against the flow near the terminal, then left it and rushed into the airport building.
The victim managed to reach the baggage area, where he opened a security door leading directly to the aircraft parking area. Despite being chased by border police, he escaped and rushed towards an "Airbus A319" belonging to "Volotea," which was performing a "reverse thrust" maneuver to exit the parking area in preparation for takeoff.
According to eyewitnesses, Russo was "pulled" into one of the aircraft's two turbofan engines, which rotate at speeds of up to 15,000 RPM. The incident occurred just 1 minute and 55 seconds after the aircraft began to move, according to data from "Flightradar24," and Russo died instantly. Fire crews at the airport responded immediately, and his remains were recovered from the engine.
The incident led to the temporary closure of the airport for nearly two hours, resulting in the cancellation of 19 flights and the diversion of other flights to nearby airports. Flight V73511, which was carrying 154 passengers and 6 crew members, was halted and later rescheduled after psychological support was provided to the passengers and crew.
The Italian police, in collaboration with the public prosecutor in Bergamo, Maurizio Romanelli, opened an investigation to understand the circumstances of the incident. Police sources indicated that Russo had "drug-related issues," and initial investigations suggest that the incident may have been a suicide; however, no evidence was found in his car that would clarify his motives, as it was filled with "various materials" that did not provide a clear explanation.
Bergamo Airport, officially known as Orio al Serio International Airport, is the third-busiest airport in Italy, having received 17.4 million passengers in 2024. It is considered a major hub for low-cost airlines, such as "Ryanair" and "Volotea," and primarily serves the nearby city of Milan.
