في خطوة مثيرة للجدل تعكس تحوّلا حادا في أولوياتها، شرعت شركة مايكروسوفت في تسريح نحو 9,000 موظف من مختلف فروعها حول العالم، بينهم سعوديون يعملون في فرعها الإقليمي بمدينة الرياض. ووفقا لمصادر موثوقة، لم تأتِ هذه التسريحات بسبب خسائر مالية، فالشركة لا تزال تحقق أرباحا عالية، بل نتيجة قرار إستراتيجي لتقليل طبقات الإدارة، وتبسيط العمليات الداخلية، وإعادة تخصيص الموارد نحو استثمارات الذكاء الاصطناعي وتوظيفه في النمو التقني المستقبلي.
التسريحات طالت قطاع Xbox والاستوديوهات التابعة له، إضافة إلى فرق من المبيعات والتسويق، حيث أُلغيت مشاريع بارزة مثل Everwild وPerfect Dark، وتم إغلاق استوديو The Initiative بالكامل. كما أكدت مصادر من داخل الشركة أن هذه الخطوة جزء من مراجعة تنظيمية شاملة تهدف إلى جعل مايكروسوفت أكثر «رشاقة» في اتخاذ القرار وتنفيذ الابتكار.
وتأتي هذه الجولة بعد تسريحات سابقة في مايو ويونيو، رفعت إجمالي المسرّحين هذا العام إلى أكثر من 15,000 موظف.
ورغم أن مايكروسوفت تبرر الخطوة بأنها ضرورة تنظيمية لضمان التركيز على أولوياتها الجديدة، إلا أن تأثيرها البشري لا يُستهان به، خصوصا في القطاعات التي طالما شكّلت رافعة إبداعية في الشركة.

The layoffs affected the Xbox sector and its affiliated studios, as well as teams from sales and marketing, where prominent projects such as Everwild and Perfect Dark were canceled, and the The Initiative studio was completely shut down. Sources within the company have confirmed that this step is part of a comprehensive organizational review aimed at making Microsoft more "agile" in decision-making and implementing innovation.
This round comes after previous layoffs in May and June, raising the total number of layoffs this year to over 15,000 employees.
Although Microsoft justifies the move as a necessary organizational step to ensure focus on its new priorities, the human impact should not be underestimated, especially in sectors that have long been a creative lever for the company.
