تسبب ثعبان مختبئ في مخزن شحن طائرة في تأخير رحلة داخلية أسترالية لمدة ساعتين (120 دقيقة)، وفق ما أفاد به مسؤولون في مطار ملبورن.
وتم العثور على الثعبان، بينما كان الركاب يستقلون «رحلة فيرجن أستراليا رقم في.إيه.337» في مطار ملبورن، متوجهين إلى بريسبان، حسب ما ذكره صائد الثعابين مارك بيلي.
وتبين أن الثعبان أخضر اللون بطول 60 سنتيمتراً غير مؤذٍ، لكن بيلي قال إنه اعتقد أنه قد يكون ساماً عندما اقترب منه في المخزن المظلم.
وقال بيلي: «لم أدرك أن الثعبان ليس ساماً إلا بعد أن أمسكت به، حتى تلك اللحظة، بدا الأمر خطيراً جداً بالنسبة لي».
يُشار إلى أن معظم الثعابين الأكثر سمّية في العالم موطنها الأصلي في أستراليا.
وتم تسليم الثعبان وهو من الأنواع المحمية إلى طبيب بيطري في ملبورن، للعثور على مكان به مربي ثعابين مرخص له.
A snake hiding in a cargo hold of an airplane caused a two-hour (120-minute) delay for a domestic flight in Australia, according to officials at Melbourne Airport.
The snake was found while passengers were boarding "Virgin Australia Flight VA.337" at Melbourne Airport, heading to Brisbane, as reported by snake catcher Mark Beattie.
The snake was identified as a non-venomous green snake measuring 60 centimeters long, but Beattie said he thought it might be venomous when he approached it in the dark cargo hold.
Beattie stated, "I didn't realize the snake was non-venomous until I caught it; up until that moment, it seemed very dangerous to me."
It is noted that most of the world's most venomous snakes are native to Australia.
The snake, which is a protected species, was handed over to a veterinarian in Melbourne to find a place with a licensed snake handler.
