لقي 11 عاملاً حتفهم، إثر انهيار جزئي في منجم للذهب شرقي السودان.
وأعلنت الشركة السودانية للموارد المعدنية، المسؤولة عن المشروع، في بيان (الإثنين)، أن الانهيار وقع في منجم «كرش الفيل» خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع في بلدة الحويد الصحراوية بولاية نهر النيل شرقي البلاد.
وأضاف البيان أن سبعة عمال آخرين أصيبوا وتم نقلهم إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج.
وأشارت الشركة إلى أنها أوقفت أعمال التنقيب في الموقع، وجددت تحذيراتها للمنقبين التقليديين بعدم العمل في الموقع.
يذكر أن السودان يعد من كبار منتجي الذهب في أفريقيا، لكن حوادث انهيار المناجم شائعة بسبب ضعف معايير السلامة.
وشهد السودان حوادث مماثلة في السنوات الأخيرة، من بينها انهيار في سنة 2023 أدى إلى مقتل 14 عاملاً، وآخر في 2021 أسفر عن مقتل 38 شخصاً.
Eleven workers died following a partial collapse at a gold mine in eastern Sudan.
The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, responsible for the project, announced in a statement on Monday that the collapse occurred at the "Kersh Al-Fil" mine during the weekend in the desert town of Al-Huwaiyid in the River Nile state of eastern Sudan.
The statement added that seven other workers were injured and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The company indicated that it has suspended excavation activities at the site and renewed its warnings to traditional miners not to work in the area.
It is worth noting that Sudan is one of the largest gold producers in Africa, but mine collapse incidents are common due to poor safety standards.
Sudan has witnessed similar incidents in recent years, including a collapse in 2023 that resulted in the deaths of 14 workers, and another in 2021 that led to the deaths of 38 people.
