وخلال المحاكمة، دافع المتهم عن نفسه مدعياً أن الفعل كان «مزحة» تهدف إلى تخويف الضحية وليس إيذائه، لكن القاضي رفض هذا الدفاع، معتبراً أن الفعل يشكل جريمة اعتداء وإهانة متعمدة، كما أشار المدعي العام إلى أن مثل هذه الأفعال تُظهر استخداماً غير مقبول للعنف لحل النزاعات الشخصية.
