For more than three and a half decades, my colleague Mohammed Al-Hattar has been a prominent figure in the journalistic scene at "Okaz," not only as a seasoned journalist but also as one of the administrators who bore the burden of organizing, directing, and regulating the rhythm of daily editorial work in one of the oldest media institutions in Saudi Arabia, and one of the most dynamic and crowded with outstanding editorial talents.
Al-Hattar, who combined firmness with kindness, professionalism with the humanity of camaraderie, was always close to the details, keenly attentive to the accuracy of work, with a sharp eye for headlines, pages, and lines, while his heart was kind towards the team.
He does not know ambiguity, nor does he confuse friendship with the demands of responsibility; that is why those who knew his sincerity loved him, and those who were unaware of the standards he would not compromise avoided confrontation with him.
He progressed in his journalistic duties, moving between the regional offices of the newspaper in several areas of the Kingdom, to closely face the challenges of fieldwork and the daily burdens of management.
He experienced field incidents, tasted the bitterness of situations that do not appear in headlines, but that refine true journalists. With each task, he emerged more resilient and more determined that journalism should be a conscious voice, not a chaotic opinion, and that the institution should be greater than individual whims.
When he took on the role of Editor-in-Chief of "Okaz," it was not only a recognition of a long career but also an acknowledgment of a rare ability to lead at a moment when journalism needs it; when professionalism intersects with digital challenges, administrative balance becomes a necessity, not a luxury.
In the eyes of his colleagues, Mohammed Al-Hattar is more than an Editor-in-Chief... he is the conscience of the newsroom, a golden memory, and a mirror reflecting the resilience of a journalist when adhering to the honor of the word and the values of responsibility.
He is currently going through a transient health issue, as "his big heart refused to complain." We wish him and his sister a swift recovery from this ailment that struck them at the same time, and they underwent simultaneous surgery on the same day, in a coincidence that he adds to his memory record after overcoming the crisis, God willing.
