أعلن وزير الزراعة والغابات والثروة السمكية الياباني، تاكو إيتو، استقالته من منصبه، اليوم (الأربعاء)، بعد موجة من الغضب الشعبي إثر تصريحاته المثيرة للجدل حول تلقيه الأرز كهدايا طوال حياته، دون الحاجة لشرائه.
وقد قبل رئيس الوزراء الياباني، شيغيرو إيشيبا، الاستقالة، في ظل الضغوط العامة الناتجة عن ارتفاع أسعار الأرز الذي يعاني منه الشعب الياباني.
وخلال تصريحات أدلى بها إيتو خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع، قال إنه لم يشترِ الأرز قط لأنه كان يتلقاه كهدايا، وهي تصريحات أثارت استياءً واسعًا في اليابان، حيث يواجه المواطنون ارتفاعًا قياسيًا في أسعار الأرز، وهو المكون الرئيسي في النظام الغذائي الياباني.
وقد اعتُبرت هذه التصريحات غير حساسة تجاه معاناة المواطنين، خصوصا في ظل الأزمة الاقتصادية التي تشهدها البلاد.
وتشهد اليابان منذ أشهر ارتفاعًا ملحوظًا في أسعار الأرز، وهو ما يُعزى إلى عدة عوامل، منها نقص الإنتاج المحلي نتيجة ظروف مناخية غير مواتية، وزيادة تكاليف الإنتاج، إضافة إلى الطلب المتزايد.
وفي محاولة للحد من هذا الارتفاع، أعلنت الحكومة اليابانية، عبر وزارة الزراعة والغابات والثروة السمكية، خططا لإطلاق كميات من الأرز من المخزونات الوطنية على أساس شهري، بما يشمل حصاد العام الماضي وبعضه من عام 2023.
ومع ذلك، لم تنجح هذه الإجراءات حتى الآن في خفض الأسعار بشكل كبير، مما زاد من الضغط على الحكومة.
وفي بيان رسمي، قال تاكو إيتو إنه يتحمل المسؤولية الكاملة عن تصريحاته، مؤكدًا أنه قدم استقالته إلى رئيس الوزراء إيشيبا لتجنب المزيد من الجدل الذي قد يعيق عمل الحكومة.
وأضاف أنه يأسف لتأثير تصريحاته على الثقة العامة، خصوصا في وقت تعاني فيه الأسر اليابانية من ارتفاع تكاليف المعيشة.
وأكد رئيس الوزراء إيشيبا، في تصريحات نقلتها قناة NHK، قبول الاستقالة، مشيرًا إلى أن تصريحات إيتو كانت غير مناسبة في ظل الظروف الحالية.
The Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Taku Ito, announced his resignation from his position today (Wednesday) following a wave of public outrage over his controversial remarks about receiving rice as gifts throughout his life, without the need to buy it.
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba accepted the resignation amid public pressure resulting from rising rice prices that the Japanese people are suffering from.
During remarks made by Ito over the weekend, he stated that he had never bought rice because he received it as gifts, comments that sparked widespread discontent in Japan, where citizens are facing record-high rice prices, a staple in the Japanese diet.
These remarks were deemed insensitive to the suffering of citizens, especially in light of the economic crisis the country is experiencing.
Japan has been witnessing a noticeable rise in rice prices for months, attributed to several factors, including a shortage of local production due to unfavorable weather conditions, increased production costs, and rising demand.
In an attempt to curb this increase, the Japanese government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, announced plans to release quantities of rice from national reserves on a monthly basis, including last year's harvest and some from 2023.
However, these measures have not yet succeeded in significantly lowering prices, which has increased pressure on the government.
In an official statement, Taku Ito said he takes full responsibility for his remarks, emphasizing that he submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Ishiba to avoid further controversy that could hinder the government's work.
He added that he regrets the impact of his remarks on public trust, especially at a time when Japanese families are struggling with rising living costs.
Prime Minister Ishiba confirmed in statements reported by NHK that he accepted the resignation, noting that Ito's comments were inappropriate given the current circumstances.
