وافق مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي، الإثنين، على تعيين تشارلز كوشنر، والد جاريد كوشنر صهر الرئيس دونالد ترمب، سفيرًا للولايات المتحدة في فرنسا.
يأتي ذلك في خطوة تعقب منح الرئيس الجمهوري في ولايته الأولى نسيبه عفوًا رئاسيًّا عن إدانة جنائية، وفق «فرانس برس».
وأقر مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي تعيين السفير الجديد لواشنطن بأغلبية 51 صوتًا مقابل 45 صوتًا.
وكوشنر الأب قطب عقارات أمضى عامًا واحدًا في سجن فيدرالي بعد أن حُكم عليه في 2004 بالسجن لمدة عامين بتهمة التهرب الضريبي، وعفا عنه ترمب في نهاية ولايته الرئاسية الأولى.
ويصل كوشنر إلى باريس في وقت تشهد فيه العلاقات بين الولايات المتحدة وفرنسا، الحليفتين التاريخيتين، وأوروبا بشكل عام، توترات بسبب تهديد الرئيس الأمريكي بحرب تجارية.
وتشارلز كوشنر (71 عامًا) هو والد جاريد كوشنر، زوج إيفانكا ترمب، الابنة الكبرى للرئيس الأمريكي.
وعمل جاريد كوشنر مستشارًا لترمب، وخصوصا في شؤون الشرق الأوسط، خلال فترة رئاسته الأولى.
وسيشغل تشارلز كوشنر أيضًا منصب سفير الولايات المتّحدة لدى إمارة موناكو.
The U.S. Senate approved on Monday the appointment of Charles Kushner, the father of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Donald Trump, as the ambassador of the United States to France.
This comes as a step following the Republican president granting his relative a presidential pardon for a criminal conviction during his first term, according to "France Press."
The U.S. Senate confirmed the new ambassador to Washington with a majority of 51 votes to 45 votes.
Charles Kushner is a real estate mogul who spent one year in federal prison after being sentenced in 2004 to two years in prison for tax evasion, and he was pardoned by Trump at the end of his first presidential term.
Kushner arrives in Paris at a time when relations between the United States and France, two historic allies, and Europe in general, are experiencing tensions due to the American president's threat of a trade war.
Charles Kushner (71 years old) is the father of Jared Kushner, the husband of Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of the American president.
Jared Kushner served as an advisor to Trump, particularly on Middle Eastern affairs, during his first term.
Charles Kushner will also serve as the ambassador of the United States to the Principality of Monaco.
