حجز فريق الخليج مقعده في الدور ربع النهائي من مسابقة كأس الملك، بفوزه على التعاون بركلات الترجيح بنتيجة 5-3 بعد التعادل الإيجابي بهدف لكل منهما خلال الأشواط الأصلية والإضافية في المباراة التي جمعت الفريقين مساء الاثنين، على ملعب الأمير محمد بن فهد بالدمام ضمن منافسات كأس الملك.
وكان الخليج هو البادئ بالتسجيل عن طريق النرويجي جوشوا كينغ من خطأ دفاعي استغله ليخطف الكرة ويتجاوز الحارس ويسكنها الشباك كهدف أول في الدقيقة الثامنة.
وأدرك التعاون التعادل بواسطة الكولومبي روجير مارتينيز والذي صوب كرة قوية داخل مرمى الخليج في الدقيقة الخامسة والعشرين.
واستمر اللعب سجالاً بين الفريقين طوال شوطي المباراة دون تسجيل أهداف باستثناء فرص خطيرة للفريقين دون أن تهتز الشباك، ليستمر اللقاء في الشوطين الإضافيين دون تتغير في النتيجة رغم محاولات الفريقين قبل أن يحتكما لركلات الترجيح والتي حسمت المواجهة لصالح الخليج والتأهل للدور ربع النهائي من منافسات كأس الملك.
The Al-Khaleej team secured its place in the quarter-finals of the King’s Cup by defeating Al-Taawoun in a penalty shootout with a score of 5-3 after a 1-1 draw during the regular and extra time in the match that took place on Monday evening at Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam as part of the King’s Cup competitions.
Al-Khaleej was the first to score through Norwegian Joshua King, who capitalized on a defensive error to seize the ball, surpass the goalkeeper, and find the net for the first goal in the eighth minute.
Al-Taawoun equalized through Colombian Roger Martinez, who struck a powerful shot into Al-Khaleej's net in the twenty-fifth minute.
The match continued to be a back-and-forth battle between the two teams throughout both halves without any further goals, aside from several dangerous chances for both sides that did not result in a score. The game proceeded into extra time without any change in the score despite attempts from both teams before they went to penalties, which ultimately decided the match in favor of Al-Khaleej and secured their advancement to the quarter-finals of the King’s Cup.
