اقترح رئيس نادي بورتو أندريه فيلاش بواش، إقامة بطولة «كأس سوبر أيبيرية» تجمع أندية إسبانيا والبرتغال، تشمل برشلونة، وريال مدريد وأتلتيكو، إلى جانب بورتو، وبنفيكا وسبورتينغ لشبونة.
وأوضح فيلاش بواش خلال قمة كرة القدم البرتغالية في أوليراس أنّ الهدف من المبادرة هو تعزيز تدويل كرة القدم البرتغالية، مشيراً إلى إمكانية نقل بعض مباريات الدوري إلى الخارج لجذب الجماهير في مدن مثل باريس ونيويورك.
وأكّد أنّهُ ناقش الفكرة مع رؤساء الأندية الإسبانية والبرتغالية، رغم معارضة الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم. مضيفاً أنّ التجربة قد تفتَح المجال أمام الزيادة الجماهيرية للبطولات المحلية الإسبانية والبرتغالية.

The president of FC Porto, André Villas-Boas, proposed the establishment of a "Super Iberian Cup" that would bring together clubs from Spain and Portugal, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atlético, alongside Porto, Benfica, and Sporting Lisbon.
Villas-Boas explained during the Portuguese football summit in Oleiros that the aim of the initiative is to enhance the internationalization of Portuguese football, noting the possibility of moving some league matches abroad to attract fans in cities like Paris and New York.
He confirmed that he discussed the idea with the presidents of Spanish and Portuguese clubs, despite opposition from UEFA. He added that the experience could open the door to increased fan engagement for the domestic leagues in Spain and Portugal.
