The Minister of Education and Chairman of the Saudi University Sports Federation, Yusuf Al-Bunyan, launched the 16th sports season of the federation, in the presence of the federation president Dr. Khalid bin Saleh Al-Muzaini and university presidents, during a ceremony held today at the ministry's headquarters in Riyadh.
During the ceremony, attendees watched a film about the achievements of the previous sports season (the 15th) and the performance indicators for universities. The minister, Al-Bunyan, then inaugurated the 16th sports season for the Saudi University Sports Federation competitions, which included 31 national championships (17 for male students and 14 for female students). This was followed by a visual presentation about the new season, after which Al-Bunyan honored the distinguished universities in the performance indicators for the 15th season for male and female students in both public and private education, as well as the most active universities during the season.
The Minister of Education had chaired the General Assembly meeting of the Saudi University Sports Federation, which took place before the launch ceremony, during which the annual report for the federation for the 15th sports season of the academic year 1446 AH was approved, along with the final accounts for the federation for the fiscal year 2024.
Following the ceremony, the president of the Saudi University Sports Federation, Dr. Khalid Al-Muzaini, signed cooperation agreements with the Saudi Weightlifting Federation, Med Gulf Insurance, and the National Committee for Labor Committees.
Dr. Khalid Al-Muzaini praised the support of the leadership—may God protect it—for the university sports sector, and the continuous support of the Minister of Education for the federation, as well as his attendance and inauguration of the 16th season, which is considered a national project led by the federation and represents a vital platform for engaging youth within the university environment, which includes a significant percentage of the nation's youth. This reflects the magnitude of the impact and the importance of investing in the energies of young people. He pointed out that one of the most notable achievements is enabling female students to have equal opportunities with male students, which represents a qualitative leap in promoting gender equality. Despite the Kingdom's recent entry into women's sports, it has achieved a commendable international presence in this field.
In a statement following the ceremony, the president of the Saudi University Sports Federation revealed that the total participation in the federation's activities has reached more than 2.3 million male and female students, almost evenly divided. He emphasized that the activities have become more inclusive by introducing new games that accommodate various segments of the university community and meet their health, physical, and recreational interests.
Al-Muzaini stated: "The federation has redefined its strategic goals to make university sports a mainstay of the nation's sports, while also supporting the academic objectives of universities." He affirmed that Saudi Vision 2030 has represented a significant incentive in redirecting and focusing efforts, which has been reflected in tangible results and achievements on the ground.
Regarding the federation's new partnerships, Al-Muzaini indicated that the federation signed three memorandums of cooperation today with important entities seeking to support university sports and serve the youth of the nation, noting that these partnerships contribute to reducing operational costs and allow for further expansion in activities and programs.
Dr. Khalid Al-Muzaini concluded his remarks by confirming that the federation is moving rapidly towards achieving its goals and has succeeded in accomplishing many of them ahead of schedule, in harmony with the early and impactful results achieved by Vision 2030.
