The file for the return of basketball at Al-Ahli Club has entered a new phase, following the actions of the club's new president, Abdullah Al-Sabban, who requested to review the complete file for the sport, including the files of players and professionals, as well as the technical, medical, and administrative staff, to understand the various details related to it and to study the decision to resume activities after it was previously suspended.
Sources from "Okaz" revealed that Al-Sabban's request comes as part of a comprehensive review of the sport's conditions and requirements, in preparation for studying the available options regarding the resumption of the team's activities, amid the previous efforts made by the Saudi Basketball Federation to bring the sport back to competitions, and the discussions that have taken place on the file over the past months with the club's officials.
The sources indicated that there are direct communications between Al-Ahli Club president Abdullah Al-Sabban and the president of the Saudi Basketball Federation, Dr. Ghassan Tashkandi, to discuss the latest developments in the file and to explore the opportunities for the return of the sport, while the federation awaits the club management's position regarding the next step.
In a related context, the meetings of the General Assembly of the Saudi Basketball Federation discussed ways to support clubs and enhance their resources, amid anticipation for the announcement of a new sponsor expected to contribute to supporting and developing the sport.
Previously, "Okaz" exclusively reported on May 25 that Al-Ahli Club was moving towards canceling several of its various sports, before the club officially announced on Friday, July 24, the suspension of the first team's activities in basketball and handball, opting to focus solely on volleyball. In September, the newspaper revealed that discussions regarding the resumption of basketball activities had progressed, bringing the issue back to the forefront with the new management's actions, amid anticipation of what decisions will arise regarding the future of the sport.
