The Saudi national team enters the Gulf Cup competitions with the ambition of reclaiming a title that has been absent from its trophy cabinet for 23 years, amidst a long history for the team in the tournament that it has been associated with since its first edition in 1970 in Bahrain.
The "Green" has not missed the Gulf Cup for more than half a century except in one edition, when it withdrew from the tenth edition hosted by Kuwait in 1990 for organizational reasons, maintaining its presence in various editions and remaining one of the most prominent teams in the history of the competition.
The Saudi national team has succeeded in winning the title three times: the first in 1994 in the UAE, the second in 2002 on home soil in Riyadh, and the third in 2003 in Kuwait, before entering a long period of absence from the podium.
With Jeddah hosting the competitions, the current generation looks forward to writing a new chapter in the history of the "Green," ending a 23-year drought, and returning to embrace the Gulf gold in front of its fans on home ground.
