The national coach Bandar Al-Jaithen confirmed that the match between the Saudi national team and its Kuwaiti counterpart in the opening of "Gulf 27" carries double importance, noting that holding the tournament in Jeddah and among Saudi fans gives the players an additional responsibility to prove their presence and compete for the title.
Al-Jaithen said in statements to "Okaz" that the Gulf Championship holds great significance for all teams due to its competitive and historical value, emphasizing that every team enters it with the aim of winning the championship.
He explained that the tournament represents an important opportunity for new players in the Green team to prove themselves, especially during the current phase which is witnessing technical changes and reliance on a group of young players, stressing that participation requires taking responsibility.
He pointed out that matches between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait always have a special character due to the historical rivalry between them both regionally and continentally, expecting a strong match that will be determined by the players' capabilities and the coaches' strategies.
Regarding the expected style of the Kuwaiti team, Al-Jaithen clarified that coach Donis clearly relies on building from the back and moving the ball forward, which requires high precision and avoiding mistakes in defensive areas, along with the importance of having numerical presence in the midfield to control the game and create opportunities.
He added that the Green team will miss the services of Musab Al-Juwair as a playmaker, but learning from past mistakes and adhering to the camp's instructions will be crucial factors, confirming that the Kuwaiti team will not be easy given the administrative and technical changes it is undergoing.
Al-Jaithen anticipated that the match would see openness from both sides, with expected caution from Kuwait in the early minutes, as Saudi Arabia plays on its home ground and among its fans, stressing that controlling the pace of the match will be an important factor in determining its course.
He highlighted the importance of the experiences of Mohammed Kanno, Nasser Al-Dosari, Firas Al-Buraikan, and Abdullah Al-Hamdan in maintaining the team's balance and supporting the young elements.
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing the difficulty of beginnings, pointing out that achieving a positive result will be important for maintaining the players' morale and giving the team continuity to compete for the top of the group.
