قررت اللجنة المنظمة لدورة ألعاب البحر المتوسط سحب الميدالية الفضية من المصارع المصري محمد القاسم، بعد واقعة اعتدائه على منافسه الكرواتي خلال المباراة النهائية.
وجاء القرار على خلفية قيام محمد القاسم دياب، لاعب المنتخب المصري للمصارعة، بالتعدي بالرأس على منافسه الكرواتي عقب نهاية اللقاء، في واقعة دفعت اللجنة إلى إلغاء نتيجة المباراة وحرمان اللاعب المصري من الميدالية الفضية التي كان قد حصل عليها.
وأصبح المصارع المصري مهدداً بعقوبة إضافية قد تصل إلى الإيقاف، إلى جانب إمكانية حجب نتائجه في منافسات البطولة، في انتظار ما تسفر عنه الإجراءات التأديبية الخاصة بالواقعة.
وكان محمد القاسم قد قدم مشواراً قوياً في منافسات وزن 87 كغم، بعدما نجح في بلوغ المباراة النهائية عقب فوزه في الدور نصف النهائي على بطل تركيا بعدم التكافؤ.
وخلال المباراة النهائية، خسر المصارع المصري أمام بطل كرواتيا بنتيجة 1-5، قبل أن تشهد نهاية اللقاء الواقعة التي تسببت في سحب الميدالية الفضية منه.
وتستضيف مدينة تارانتو الإيطالية منافسات النسخة العشرين من دورة ألعاب البحر المتوسط، التي تستمر حتى 3 سبتمبر القادم، بمشاركة 3803 رياضيين يمثلون 26 دولة.
وتعد دورة ألعاب البحر المتوسط من أبرز المنافسات الرياضية متعددة الألعاب في المنطقة، وتجمع رياضيين من دول حوض البحر المتوسط للتنافس في عدد كبير من الألعاب الرياضية، وتشكل محطة مهمة للرياضيين قبل الاستحقاقات القارية والدولية الكبرى.
ويأتي قرار سحب الميدالية ليحرم مصر من فضية منافسات المصارعة في وزن 87 كغم، بعد أن كان القاسم قد ضمن مكانه على منصة التتويج عقب وصوله إلى المباراة النهائية.

The decision came after Mohamed Al-Qassem Diab, a member of the Egyptian wrestling team, headbutted his Croatian opponent at the end of the match, an incident that prompted the committee to annul the match result and deprive the Egyptian athlete of the silver medal he had won.
The Egyptian wrestler now faces the threat of additional penalties that could include suspension, as well as the possibility of having his results in the championship competitions withheld, pending the outcome of the disciplinary procedures related to the incident.
Mohamed Al-Qassem had a strong run in the 87 kg weight category, successfully reaching the final match after defeating the Turkish champion in the semifinals by default.
During the final match, the Egyptian wrestler lost to the Croatian champion with a score of 1-5, before the incident occurred at the end of the match that led to the withdrawal of his silver medal.
The Italian city of Taranto is hosting the 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games, which will continue until September 3, with the participation of 3,803 athletes representing 26 countries.
The Mediterranean Games are among the most prominent multi-sport competitions in the region, bringing together athletes from Mediterranean countries to compete in a wide range of sports, and serve as an important stop for athletes before major continental and international events.
The decision to withdraw the medal deprives Egypt of the silver in the wrestling competition in the 87 kg category, after Al-Qassem had secured his place on the podium by reaching the final match.
