أصدر الاتحاد البلجيكي لكرة القدم بياناً رسمياً أعرب خلاله عن اندهاشه من قرار الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «فيفا» اعتبار اللاعب الأمريكي فولارين بالوغون مؤهلاً للمشاركة في مواجهة الولايات المتحدة وبلجيكا ضمن دور الـ16 من كأس العالم 2026، رغم حصوله على بطاقة حمراء في المباراة السابقة.
وأوضح الاتحاد البلجيكي أن «فيفا» استند في قراره إلى المادة 27 من اللائحة التأديبية، التي تمنح اللجنة التأديبية صلاحية تعليق تنفيذ بعض العقوبات، إلا أنه أكد في المقابل أن المادة 66-4 من اللائحة نفسها تنص بوضوح على أن البطاقة الحمراء تؤدي تلقائياً إلى إيقاف اللاعب في المباراة التالية.
وأشار البيان إلى أن هذا الإجراء تم تطبيقه على جميع حالات الطرد المباشر في كأس العالم 2026، معتبراً أن السماح لبالوغون بالمشاركة يثير تساؤلات حول مبدأ المساواة بين المنتخبات المشاركة.
وأضاف الاتحاد البلجيكي أن القرار يتعارض أيضاً مع لوائح كأس العالم 2026، التي تنص على إيقاف أي لاعب يتعرض للطرد، سواء ببطاقة حمراء مباشرة أو بعد الحصول على إنذارين، عن المباراة التالية تلقائياً، مع إمكانية فرض عقوبات إضافية بحسب الحالة.
كما شدد الاتحاد على أن هذا المبدأ جرى التأكيد عليه في التعميم رقم 16 الصادر عن «فيفا»، الذي وُزع على جميع الاتحادات المشاركة قبل انطلاق البطولة، إلى جانب التأكيد عليه في الاجتماعات التنسيقية وورش العمل الخاصة بالمونديال قبل كل مباراة.
واختتم الاتحاد البلجيكي بيانه بالتأكيد على أنه يدرس جميع الخيارات القانونية الممكنة، بهدف حماية حقوق المنتخبات المشاركة والحفاظ على مبادئ العدالة واللعب النظيف، ليس فقط في النسخة الحالية من كأس العالم، بل في البطولات القادمة أيضاً.
ويأتي هذا البيان ليزيد من سخونة المواجهة المرتقبة بين الولايات المتحدة وبلجيكا، بعدما تحولت قضية مشاركة بالوغون إلى واحدة من أبرز الملفات الجدلية في الأدوار الإقصائية من كأس العالم.
The Belgian Football Union issued an official statement expressing its astonishment at the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) to consider American player Folarin Balogun eligible to participate in the match between the United States and Belgium in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, despite him receiving a red card in the previous match.
The Belgian Union clarified that FIFA based its decision on Article 27 of the disciplinary regulations, which grants the disciplinary committee the authority to suspend the implementation of certain penalties. However, it emphasized that Article 66-4 of the same regulations clearly states that a red card automatically results in the suspension of the player for the next match.
The statement noted that this procedure has been applied to all cases of direct red cards in the 2026 World Cup, considering that allowing Balogun to participate raises questions about the principle of equality among the participating teams.
The Belgian Union added that the decision also contradicts the regulations of the 2026 World Cup, which stipulate that any player who is sent off, whether by a direct red card or after receiving two yellow cards, is automatically suspended for the next match, with the possibility of additional penalties depending on the case.
The Union emphasized that this principle was reaffirmed in Circular No. 16 issued by FIFA, which was distributed to all participating federations before the tournament began, as well as being reiterated in coordination meetings and workshops related to the World Cup before each match.
The Belgian Union concluded its statement by confirming that it is exploring all possible legal options to protect the rights of the participating teams and uphold the principles of justice and fair play, not only in the current edition of the World Cup but also in future tournaments.
This statement comes to intensify the anticipation for the upcoming match between the United States and Belgium, as the issue of Balogun's participation has turned into one of the most prominent controversial topics in the knockout stages of the World Cup.
