سطّر منتخب مصر إنجازًا تاريخيًا بعدما بلغ دور الـ16 من بطولة كأس العالم 2026 للمرة الأولى في تاريخه، إثر فوزه على منتخب أستراليا بركلات الترجيح (4-2)، عقب انتهاء الوقتين الأصلي والإضافي بالتعادل (1-1)، في المباراة التي أقيمت على ملعب دالاس بولاية تكساس.
وفرض المنتخب المصري أفضليته في الشوط الأول، ونجح إمام عاشور في افتتاح التسجيل عند الدقيقة 13 برأسية رائعة، قبل أن يهدر الفراعنة أكثر من فرصة لتعزيز النتيجة، أبرزها عن طريق عمر مرموش، كما أُلغي هدف لزيكو بداعي التسلل.
وفي الشوط الثاني، عاد المنتخب الأسترالي إلى أجواء المباراة بعدما سجل محمد هاني هدفًا بالخطأ في مرماه عند الدقيقة 55، لتستمر النتيجة بالتعادل حتى نهاية الوقت الأصلي، ثم الإضافي.
واحتكم المنتخبان إلى ركلات الترجيح، حيث تألق لاعبو المنتخب المصري وحسموا المواجهة بنتيجة (4-2)، ليحقق الفراعنة إنجازًا تاريخيًا بالتأهل إلى الأدوار الإقصائية للمونديال لأول مرة.

The Egyptian national team achieved a historic accomplishment by reaching the Round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup for the first time in its history, after defeating the Australian team in a penalty shootout (4-2), following a 1-1 draw at the end of regular and extra time, in a match held at the Dallas stadium in Texas.
The Egyptian team imposed its superiority in the first half, with Imam Ashour successfully opening the scoring with a brilliant header in the 13th minute, before the Pharaohs squandered several opportunities to extend their lead, the most notable being a chance by Omar Marmoush, and a goal by Zico was disallowed for offside.
In the second half, the Australian team returned to the match after Mohamed Hani scored an own goal in the 55th minute, keeping the score tied until the end of regular time, and then extra time.
The two teams went to penalties, where the Egyptian players shone and secured the victory with a score of (4-2), allowing the Pharaohs to achieve a historic milestone by qualifying for the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time.
