حذّر عدد من وسائل الإعلام الأسترالية نجوم منتخب بلادهم الملقب بـ«الكنغر» من الاستهتار بالمنتخب المصري خلال المواجهة التي ستجمعهما ضمن دور الـ32 من مباريات كأس العالم المقرر إقامتها يوم الجمعة القادم، حيث بدأت الصحف بتغطية الحدث المرتقب بأدق التفاصيل.
ووضعت الصحف الأسترالية النجم الأسطورة المصري القائد محمد صلاح في صدارة اهتماماتها، حيث وصفته صحيفة The Guardian Australia بأنه اللاعب «المُلهم» للفراعنة، مشيرة إلى أن هناك حالة من الغموض تحيط بجاهزيته البدنية بعد خروجه بديلاً خلال المباراة الأخيرة أمام إيران، وهو ما يثير قلق الجماهير المصرية قبل المواجهة الحاسمة.
كما وصفت الصحف الأسترالية صلاح بالـ«Talisman» (التعويذة)، الذي تحبس مصر أنفاسها من أجله.
من جانبها، أكدت شبكة SBS الأسترالية أن منتخب مصر يُعد من أصعب المنافسين الذين كان من الممكن أن تواجههم أستراليا في الأدوار الإقصائية.
واستشهدت بتصريحات النجم الأسترالي السابق هاري كيويل، الذي اعتبر أن مصر وبلجيكا يمثلان أصعب الاحتمالات، مشيراً إلى أن المباراة ستكون متكافئة ومعقدة في ظل تقارب التصنيف الدولي بين المنتخبين.
كما استحضرت التقارير الأسترالية تاريخ المواجهات بين المنتخبين، موضحة أن لقاء دور الـ32 سيكون الأول بين مصر وأستراليا في تاريخ كأس العالم، والرابع على مستوى جميع المباريات.
يذكر أنالمنتخبين المصري والأسترالي التقيا على مر التاريخ ثلاث مرات، في كأس القارات 1997 (مواجهة رسمية)وكسبت أستراليا 3 -1 ، وفي مباراة ودية 2010 باستاد القاهرة انتصرت مصر 3 -0، وفي كأس الرئيس بكوريا الجنوبية 1987 (مباراة ودية رسمية) انتهت بالتعادل السلبي في الأشواط الأصلية، وفازت أستراليا بركلات الترجيح 4 - 3 .
A number of Australian media outlets have warned the stars of their national team, nicknamed the "Kangaroos," not to underestimate the Egyptian team during the match that will bring them together in the Round of 32 of the World Cup, scheduled for next Friday, as newspapers have begun covering the anticipated event in great detail.
The Australian newspapers have placed the legendary Egyptian captain Mohamed Salah at the forefront of their concerns, with The Guardian Australia describing him as the "inspiring" player for the Pharaohs, noting that there is some uncertainty surrounding his physical readiness after he was substituted during the last match against Iran, which raises concerns among Egyptian fans before the crucial encounter.
The Australian press also referred to Salah as the "Talisman," for whom Egypt holds its breath.
For its part, the SBS Australian network confirmed that the Egyptian team is one of the toughest opponents Australia could face in the knockout stages.
It cited statements from former Australian star Harry Kewell, who considered that Egypt and Belgium represent the toughest scenarios, pointing out that the match will be balanced and complicated given the close international rankings between the two teams.
The Australian reports also recalled the history of encounters between the two teams, indicating that the Round of 32 match will be the first between Egypt and Australia in World Cup history, and the fourth overall in all matches.
It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian and Australian teams have met three times in history: in the 1997 Confederations Cup (official match) where Australia won 3-1, in a friendly match in 2010 at Cairo Stadium where Egypt won 3-0, and in the President's Cup in South Korea in 1987 (official friendly match) which ended in a goalless draw in regular time, with Australia winning 4-3 on penalties.
