افتتح المنتخب المغربي التسجيل بعد 70 ثانية فقط من انطلاق اللقاء، عقب تمريرة رائعة أرسلها إبراهيم دياز داخل منطقة الجزاء، استلمها إسماعيل صيباري وأطلق تسديدة صاروخية في الشباك الأسكتلندية، ليحقق «أسود الأطلس» أول فوز عربي في المونديال.

وبحسب شبكة «أوبتا» المتخصصة في إحصاءات كرة القدم، سجل إسماعيل صيباري أسرع هدف للمغرب في كأس العالم، وثاني أسرع هدف لمنتخب أفريقي بعد هدف أسامواه جيان لغانا ضد جمهورية التشيك عام 2006 (68 ثانية).
كما أصبح صيباري ثاني لاعب أفريقي يسجل في أول مباراتين له في كأس العالم، بعد المصري محمد صلاح.
