اعتبر حارس المنتخب السعودي ونادي الهلال السابق حسن العتيبي أن تعادل المنتخب السعودي أمام الأوروغواي بنتيجة (1-1) في افتتاح مشواره بكأس العالم 2026 يُعد نتيجة إيجابية، خصوصا في ظل الفترة القصيرة التي حصل عليها مدرب الأخضر دونيس للعمل مع المنتخب قبل انطلاق البطولة.
وأوضح العتيبي أن المنتخب السعودي ظهر بصورة جيدة خلال الشوط الأول، وقدم أداءً مميزاً من الناحيتين الفنية والبدنية، مشيراً إلى أن الجهاز الفني كان يدرك أن منتخب الأوروغواي سيرفع من وتيرة ضغطه خلال الشوط الثاني، الأمر الذي كان يتطلب إجراء بعض التغييرات مبكراً.
وأكد أن المهاجم عبدالله الحمدان كان يستحق المشاركة منذ بداية الشوط الثاني على حساب مصعب الجوير، مبيناً أنه كان الخيار الأنسب في تلك المرحلة من المباراة، كما أشار إلى إمكانية الاستفادة من ناصر الدوسري إذا استدعت الحاجة إجراء تعديلات إضافية على التشكيلة.
وأضاف أن منتخب الأوروغواي فرض سيطرته بشكل أكبر خلال الشوط الثاني واستحوذ على مجريات اللعب، في وقت افتقد فيه المنتخب السعودي للاعب القادر على قيادة الهجمات المرتدة بسرعة وفاعلية. وأوضح أن سالم الدوسري لم يتمكن من استثمار بعض فرص التحول الهجومي بالشكل المطلوب، سواء بسبب غياب المساندة من زملائه أو لوجوده وحيداً في المقدمة خلال بعض فترات اللقاء.
واختتم العتيبي حديثه بالتأكيد على أهمية مراعاة المجهود البدني الكبير الذي بذله عدد من اللاعبين في المباراة الأولى، مطالباً الجهاز الفني بالنظر في إجراء بعض التغييرات على التشكيلة الأساسية خلال المواجهات القادمة، ومتمنياً التوفيق للأخضر وتحقيق نتائج أفضل في بقية مشواره المونديالي.

He added that the Uruguayan team imposed its control more during the second half and dominated the flow of the game, while the Saudi team lacked a player capable of leading counterattacks quickly and effectively. He explained that Salem Al-Dosari was unable to capitalize on some offensive transition opportunities as required, either due to the lack of support from his teammates or because he was alone at the front during some periods of the match.
Al-Otaibi concluded his remarks by emphasizing the importance of considering the significant physical effort exerted by several players in the first match, urging the coaching staff to consider making some changes to the starting lineup in the upcoming matches, and wishing the Green Team success in achieving better results in the rest of their World Cup journey.
