أصبح الاتحاد على بُعد خطوة واحدة من ضمان مشاركته في دوري أبطال آسيا للنخبة الموسم القادم، بعدما عزز موقعه في المركز الخامس، إثر تغلّبه على مضيفه الاتفاق بثلاثة أهداف مقابل هدف، في اللقاء الذي جمعهما على ملعب إيجو بالدمام، ضمن منافسات الجولة الـ33 من الدوري السعودي للمحترفين «دوري روشن»، إذ يملك العميد حاليًا 55 نقطة في جدول الترتيب، متقدمًا بفارق 3 نقاط عن أقرب ملاحقيه التعاون، قبل جولتين فقط من إسدال الستار على الموسم.
ويحتاج الاتحاد إلى تحقيق 3 نقاط فقط من المواجهتين المتبقيتين من أجل حسم التأهل رسميًا، دون النظر إلى نتائج التعاون في سباق المقاعد الآسيوية.
وسيخوض الفريق مواجهتين حاسمتين، تبدأ بملاقاة الشباب خارج أرضه، قبل أن يختتم موسمه باستضافة القادسية على ملعبه وبين جماهيره.
