بعد انتظار دام سنوات، يستعد نجم كرة القدم الإنجليزي السابق السير ديفيد بيكهام لتحقيق حلم راوده منذ فترة طويلة، إذ من المقرر أن يتوج بلقب فارس رسميًا خلال حفل ملكي يقام في قلعة وندسور اليوم (الثلاثاء).
وذكرت صحيفة Daily mail وموقع People البريطانيان أن هذا التكريم يأتي تقديرًا لإسهامات بيكهام الكبيرة في مجالي الرياضة والعمل الخيري، على أن يتم منحه اللقب من قبل الملك تشارلز الثالث شخصيًا داخل قصر باكنغهام.
ويُتوقع أن يضم الحفل نخبة من الشخصيات العامة التي قدمت خدمات مميزة للمجتمع البريطاني، حيث سيُدرج اسم بيكهام ضمن قوائم المكرمين الذين تركوا بصمة واضحة في ميادينهم.
وسيصحب قائد منتخب إنجلترا الأسبق زوجته فيكتوريا بيكهام التي رافقته في مشواره الحافل بالنجاحات، لتشهد لحظة تتويجه باللقب الذي طال انتظاره منذ أن رُشّح له أول مرة قبل أكثر من عقد.
وكان بيكهام قد حصل في عام 2003 على وسام الإمبراطورية البريطانية OBE تقديرًا لعطائه الرياضي المتميز، فيما ظل اسمه مطروحًا لنيل لقب فارس لأكثر من عشر سنوات قبل أن يتم اعتماده رسميًا هذا العام.
ويُعرف النجم الإنجليزي الذي يملك نادي Inter Miami CF بجهوده الإنسانية البارزة، إذ عمل سفيرًا لليونيسف وساهم في العديد من الحملات الخيرية لدعم الأطفال حول العالم، فضلًا عن تعاونه مع مؤسسة الملك تشارلز لتعزيز فرص الشباب في سوق العمل.
وقال بيكهام في بيان سابق: «يشرفني أن أكون جزءًا من الجهود التي تسعى إلى تحسين حياة الآخرين، وسأواصل العمل على رفع مستوى الوعي بالأنشطة الخيرية التي يمكنها أن تُحدث فرقًا حقيقيًا في المجتمع».
After years of waiting, former English football star Sir David Beckham is set to fulfill a long-held dream, as he is scheduled to be officially knighted during a royal ceremony at Windsor Castle today (Tuesday).
The Daily Mail and People magazine reported that this honor comes in recognition of Beckham's significant contributions to sports and charitable work, with the title being bestowed upon him by King Charles III personally at Buckingham Palace.
The ceremony is expected to include a host of public figures who have made outstanding contributions to British society, as Beckham's name will be listed among those honored for leaving a clear mark in their fields.
The former England team captain will be accompanied by his wife Victoria Beckham, who has supported him throughout his successful career, to witness the moment he receives the long-awaited title, which he was first nominated for over a decade ago.
Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003 in recognition of his outstanding sporting contributions, while his name has been proposed for knighthood for more than ten years before being officially approved this year.
The English star, who owns Inter Miami CF, is known for his prominent humanitarian efforts, having served as a UNICEF ambassador and contributed to various charitable campaigns supporting children around the world, in addition to collaborating with the King Charles Foundation to enhance youth opportunities in the job market.
Beckham stated in a previous statement: "I am honored to be part of the efforts aimed at improving the lives of others, and I will continue to work to raise awareness of charitable activities that can make a real difference in the community."
