أطلق رئيس نادي نابولي اوريليو دي لورينتيس تصريحات مثيرة خلال حضوره حفلة «المؤسسة الوطنية الإيطالية الامريكية» في واشنطن، حيث دعا إلى «تغيير قواعد اللعبة وصيغ البطولات»، منتقداً ضغط المباريات في الموسم الأوروبي.
وخلال تصريحات له، قال دي لورينتيس: «أوروبا يجب أن تتغيّر، لقد حان الوقت لذلك. رؤساء كرة القدم يخشون التغيير لأنهم مرتاحون في مناصبهم، لكن الوقت حان لتغيير قوانين اللعبة وهيكل البطولات».
وأضاف: «هناك عدد كبير جداً من المباريات، ولا يمكن للاعبين أن يستمروا في لعب 50 أو 60 أو حتى 70 مباراة في الموسم. يجب وضع حد للاعبين الدوليين، فبعد بلوغ 23 عاماً لا ينبغي لهم الانضمام إلى المنتخبات، لأن الوقت قد حان لاكتشاف الجيل الجديد».
واختتم: «عندما تُشرك لاعبين فوق الـ30 عاماً ويتعرضون للإصابة، فإنك تضر بالبطولات المحلية. كما أنه لا يوجد احترام كافٍ للأندية التي تدفع رواتبهم طوال العام، ويجب أن تُنظم هذه المسألة برسوم عادلة على استعارة اللاعبين للمنتخبات».
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis made provocative statements during his attendance at the "National Italian American Foundation" gala in Washington, where he called for "changing the rules of the game and the formats of the tournaments," criticizing the pressure of matches in the European season.
In his statements, De Laurentiis said: "Europe needs to change; the time has come for that. Football presidents fear change because they are comfortable in their positions, but the time has come to change the laws of the game and the structure of the tournaments."
He added: "There are far too many matches, and players cannot continue playing 50, 60, or even 70 matches in a season. There should be a limit for international players; after reaching 23 years old, they should not join national teams, because it is time to discover the new generation."
He concluded: "When you involve players over 30 years old and they get injured, you harm the local tournaments. There is also not enough respect for the clubs that pay their salaries throughout the year, and this issue should be organized with fair fees for loaning players to national teams."
