أعلن الكونغولي فيرون موسينجو أومبا استقالته من منصب الأمين العام للاتحاد الأفريقي لكرة القدم (كاف)، وذلك بعد 5 سنوات قضاها في المنصب.
وقال أومبا إن استقالته من المنصب جاءت بغرض «التفرغ لمشاريع شخصية»، مضيفاً في بيان نشره عبر منصة «x»: «الآن وقد تمكنت من تبديد الشكوك التي بذل البعض جهوداً كبيرة لإلقائها علي، يمكنني الاعتزال براحة بال ودون قيود، تاركاً «كاف» أكثر ازدهاراً من أي وقت مضى».
وكان «كاف» قد أعلن في يناير 2025 أن مكتب المدعي العام في سويسرا، التي يحمل فيرون موسينجو أومبا جنسيتها، قرر وقف التحقيقات ضد أومبا بعدما «لم يجد أي وقائع أو أساس قانوني لبدء إجراءات قضائية» عقب اتهامات بارتكاب مخالفات مالية.
وسيتولى النيجيري سامسون أدامو بصفة مؤقتة منصب الأمين العام للاتحاد الأفريقي لكرة القدم.
وفي سياق آخر، أكد رئيس «كاف» باتريس موتسيبي، عقب اجتماع اللجنة التنفيذية في القاهرة، أن بطولة كأس الأمم الأفريقية للسيدات ستقام في المغرب كما كان مخططاً لها في البداية، وستنظم في الفترة من 25 يوليو إلى 16 أغسطس القادمين.
The Congolese Véron Mosengo-Omba announced his resignation from the position of Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), after spending 5 years in the role.
Mosengo-Omba stated that his resignation was aimed at "focusing on personal projects," adding in a statement he published via the platform "x": "Now that I have managed to dispel the doubts that some have made great efforts to cast upon me, I can retire with peace of mind and without constraints, leaving CAF more prosperous than ever."
CAF announced in January 2025 that the Attorney General's Office in Switzerland, of which Véron Mosengo-Omba is a citizen, decided to halt investigations against him after "finding no facts or legal basis to initiate legal proceedings" following allegations of financial misconduct.
Nigerian Samson Adamu will temporarily assume the position of Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football.
In another context, CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed, following an executive committee meeting in Cairo, that the Women's Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco as initially planned, scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 16 of the coming year.
