تأهل منتخب الجزائر رسمياً لنهائيات كأس العالم 2026 بعد فوزه القوي على نظيره منتخب الصومال بثلاثة أهداف دون مقابل، وذلك في اللقاء الذي جمع بينهما على ملعب ميلود هدفي في مدينة وهران الجزائرية، وبذلك يكون الجزائر خامس العرب المتأهلين للمونديال المرتقب.
أحرز أهداف الجزائر الثلاثة كل من: محمد الأمين عمورة (هدفين 7، 57)، رياض محرز (د: 19).
شهد اللقاء سيطرة مبكرة للمنتخب الجزائري وتألق القائد رياض محرز نجم فريق الأهلي بصناعته لهدفين وإحرازه هدفاَ، وتمكن الجزائر من التقدم مبكراً عن طريق محمد الأمين عمورة بعد كرة عرضية رائعة من محرز سددها عمورة على الطائر لتسكن الشباك كهدف أول للجزائر (د: 7)، ومن كرة عرضية داخل منطقة الجزاء تجاوزت الجميع ليستقبلها رياض محرز ويسيطر عليها ومن ثم سددها قوية في المرمى الصومالي كهدف ثانٍ (د: 19)، وفي الشوط الثاني عاد محرز للتألق مجدداً بصناعة الهدف الثالث بعد أن تلاعب بالمدافع ولعبها عرضية عالية حولها عمورة برأسه داخل الشباك (د: 57)، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز الجزائر وتأهله رسمياً لكأس العالم 2026.
وبهذه النتيجة أصبح خامس العرب الذين سيتواجدون في مونديال 2026، وهو التأهل الخامس لمنتخب الجزائر في تاريخه في كأس العالم إذ سبق وأن شارك في أعوام 1982، 1986، 2010، 2014 وكانت المشاركة الأولى قد شهدت تألق المنتخب الجزائري بتحقيقه انتصارين وخسر لقاء، وكاد أن يتأهل لثمن النهائي لولا تلاعب منتخبي ألمانيا والنمسا، ولم يقدم المأمول في المشاركتين الثانية والثالثة ليعود للتألق مجدداً في المشاركة الأخيرة في البرازيل ويتأهل لدور الـ 16 ويخسر من منتخب ألمانيا في الأشواط الإضافية، ولعب المنتخب الجزائري 13 مباراة انتصر في 3 منها وتعادل في مثلها وخسر 7 مباريات، وتمكن هجومه من إحراز 13 هدفاً واستقبلت شباكه 19 هدفاً.
