تفوق وصيف حامل اللقب إنتر ميلان على مضيفه أياكس أمستردام الهولندي بهدفين دون مقابل، في اللقاء الذي جمع بينهما على ملعب يوهان كرويف أرينا، ضمن لقاءات الجولة الأولى من دوري أبطال أوروبا.
وشهد اللقاء تألق الفرنسي ماركوس تورام مهاجم إنتر ميلان الذي شكل خطورة حقيقية على مرمى أياكس، إذ سدد كرة قوية مرت بجوار القائم (د:32)، ومن ثم تحصل على ركلة جزاء ولكن تم إلغاؤها من قبل حكم اللقاء بعد العودة لتقنية الفيديو لوجود خطأ عليه في بداية اللعبة، ومن ركلة زاوية لإنتر ميلان نفذها هاكان شالهان قفز تورام وحولها برأسه لداخل الشباك هدفاً أول لإنتر ميلان (د:42).
وفي الشوط الثاني ومن ركلة زاوية نفذها أيضاً هامان شالهان أحرز ماركوس تورام برأسه الهدف الثاني له ولفريقه (د:47).
وحاول أياكس العودة للقاء بعد أن انفرد المهاجم البديل كاسبر دولبرغ بالمرمى وسدد كرة قوية، لكن سومير تمكن من التصدي لها، وعاد دولبرغ ليهدد مرمى إنتر برأسية لكن كرته مرت من فوق العارضة، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز إنتر ميلان بهدفين دون مقابل.

The runner-up and defending champion Inter Milan triumphed over their hosts Ajax Amsterdam with a score of two goals to none, in the match held at the Johan Cruyff Arena, as part of the first round of the UEFA Champions League.
During the match, French forward Marcus Thuram of Inter Milan shone, posing a real threat to Ajax's goal. He struck a powerful shot that went just past the post (32'), and then he earned a penalty, which was canceled by the referee after reviewing the video technology due to a foul on him at the start of the play. From a corner taken by Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Thuram jumped and headed the ball into the net for the first goal for Inter Milan (42').
In the second half, from another corner executed by Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Marcus Thuram scored his second goal for himself and his team with a header (47').
Ajax attempted to come back into the match after substitute forward Kasper Dolberg broke free on goal and struck a powerful shot, but Sommer managed to save it. Dolberg then threatened Inter's goal again with a header, but his shot went over the crossbar, ending the match with Inter Milan winning by two goals to none.
