شهد اللقاء إصابة مبكرة للاعب تشيلسي المهاجم الشاب ليام ديلاب (22 عاماً) الذي غادر أرضية الملعب بعد 14 دقيقة من صافرة البداية، وبعدها تمكن فولهام من هز شباك تشيلسي عن طريق جوشوا كينغ، لكن الحكم عاد لتقنية الفيديو وألغى الهدف لوجود خطأ لمصلحة تشيلسي قبل الهدف، وقبل نهاية الشوط الأول تمكن تشيلسي من إحراز الهدف الأول عن طريق لاعبه جواو بيدرو الذي استغل ركلة الزاوية التي نفذها بإتقان إنزو فرنانديز ليحولها بيدرو برأسه داخل شباك فولهام هدفاً أول لتشيلسي (د:45+9)، وعزز تشيلسي تقدمه بهدف ثانٍ من ركلة جزاء نفذها بنجاح إنزو فيرنانديز (د:56)، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز تشيلسي بهدفين دون مقابل.
وبهذه النتيجة يحقق تشيلسي فوزه الثاني على التوالي ويصل للنقطة السابعة وسيواجه في الجولة القادم مضيّفه برينتفورد، فيما تلقى فولهام الخسارة الأولى وتجمد رصيده عند نقطتين وسيلاقي ضيفه ليدز يونايتد في الجولة القادمة.
