تنفّس اللاعب البرازيلي لوكاس باكيتا، نجم وست هام يونايتد، الصعداء بعد أن تمت تبرئته من تهم التورط في المراهنات على مباريات الدوري الإنجليزي، لينجو من شبح الإيقاف مدى الحياة.
وأصدر النادي اللندني بياناً قال فيه: «يؤكد نادي وست هام يونايتد أن لجنة تنظيمية مستقلة قد برأت لوكاس باكيتا من تهم سوء السلوك التي وُجهت إليه من قبل الاتحاد الإنجليزي لكرة القدم، المتعلقة بانتهاكه المزعوم للمادة «E5» من لوائح الاتحاد، لقد ساند النادي اللاعب منذ اليوم الأول في هذه العملية الطويلة والشاقة».
من جهته، قال باكيتا: «منذ بداية التحقيق، أكّدتُ براءتي من هذه الاتهامات الخطيرة، لا يمكنني التحدث كثيراً الآن، لكنني ممتن لله، ومتشوق للعودة إلى اللعب بابتسامة على وجهي».
وتابع: «أشكر زوجتي التي كانت إلى جانبي طوال هذه الفترة، ونادي وست هام يونايتد، والجماهير التي لم تتخلَّ عن دعمها لي، وكذلك عائلتي وأصدقائي وفريقي القانوني، شكراً لكم جميعاً على وقوفكم إلى جانبي».
The Brazilian player Lucas Paquetá, star of West Ham United, breathed a sigh of relief after being cleared of charges related to betting on English Premier League matches, escaping the specter of a lifetime ban.
The London club issued a statement saying: “West Ham United confirms that an independent regulatory committee has cleared Lucas Paquetá of the misconduct charges brought against him by the English Football Association, related to his alleged violation of Article ‘E5’ of the Association’s regulations. The club has supported the player from day one in this long and arduous process.”
For his part, Paquetá said: “Since the beginning of the investigation, I have asserted my innocence regarding these serious allegations. I cannot speak much right now, but I am grateful to God and eager to return to playing with a smile on my face.”
He continued: “I thank my wife who has been by my side throughout this period, West Ham United, and the fans who have not abandoned their support for me, as well as my family, friends, and legal team. Thank you all for standing by me.”
