The Aprilia team announced today (Wednesday) that Spanish rider Jorge Martin, the MotoGP World Champion from last season, has returned to training after a recovery period from an injury sustained during the Qatar Grand Prix, part of the fourth round of the championship.
Martin had missed the first three rounds of the season due to two accidents during the pre-season tests, and then returned to participate in the Qatar race before falling again on the fourteenth lap, resulting in severe injuries that included 11 fractures in his ribs, which led to him missing six additional rounds.
During his absence, there was tension in the relationship between Martin and the Aprilia team, which he joined after winning the title with the Pramac team, a Ducati satellite team, becoming the first world champion from a non-manufacturer team. Despite his remarkable achievement, he did not get the opportunity to be promoted to Ducati's main team, which instead chose Spanish rider Marc Marquez, a former world champion, prompting Martin to leave.
The Aprilia team clarified in an official statement that the goal of today's session was to gradually rehabilitate Martin on the MotoGP bike after an absence of several months, noting that he completed 29 laps in the morning and an additional 35 laps during the afternoon at the Misano circuit in Italy.
The German Grand Prix is expected to take place at the end of this week, followed by the Czech Grand Prix at the Brno circuit, before the official summer break begins.
The team confirmed that Martin will travel next week to Brno, where he will undergo an official medical examination in preparation for participating in the Czech race.
In his statements, Martin expressed his relief at returning, saying: "It has been a very difficult period, but I am happy to be back on the MotoGP bike after more than three months. I felt a sense of vitality and balance today, and the plan now is for a full return in Brno."
