The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service has begun implementing extensive and simultaneous inspection operations in several districts and sub-districts in the provinces of Najaf, Diwaniya, and Wasit, as part of a coordinated security plan.
The service announced in a statement today (Monday) that the operations are part of its preventive and preemptive efforts to prevent any activities that could threaten the safety of citizens and the stability of the country.
It added that it will continue to carry out its security and intelligence tasks in various provinces, aiming to enhance security and stability.
It is worth noting that the Counter-Terrorism Service is one of the security and intelligence agencies in Iraq, directly linked to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Prime Minister, according to the Counter-Terrorism Law No. 31 of 2016. The law defines the agency's objective as combating terrorism in all its forms and eliminating it, granting it powers to carry out security, intelligence, and operational tasks, including monitoring, reconnaissance, inspection, raids, and arrests, in addition to coordinating with relevant intelligence and security agencies to implement counter-terrorism plans. The agency has emerged as one of the prominent Iraqi forces that participated in military operations against the "ISIS" organization, while continuing to carry out security, intelligence, and preemptive operations across the country.
The inspection operations announced by the agency in Najaf, Diwaniya, and Wasit are part of what it described as a coordinated security plan and preventive and preemptive measures to prevent any activities that could threaten the safety of citizens and the stability of the country.
