The international coalition against ISIS in Iraq confirmed today (Wednesday) that there is no justification for the presence of armed groups following its withdrawal from the country, affirming the completion of its mission and the last withdrawal operation that took place from Erbil. The coalition explained in a statement that the relationship between the coalition forces will transition to another phase of cooperation.
For its part, the U.S. Central Command announced in a statement the completion of the organized withdrawal of U.S. forces and equipment from Erbil Air Base on September 30, marking the end of the "Operation Inherent Resolve" mission.
It noted that this step is part of a planned transition towards a bilateral defense relationship between the United States and Iraq.
The "Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve" continues its work, now based in Jordan, while U.S. forces continue their mission to combat ISIS in Syria alongside coalition partners and the Syrian government.
U.S. Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper stated: I commend the outstanding performance of tens of thousands of American military personnel, diplomats, and civilian employees who answered the call in Iraq. Thanks to your determination, sacrifices, and professionalism, ISIS no longer poses a structural threat to Iraqi national security, and the Iraqi security forces - including the Peshmerga and other security forces in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq - now possess the capability, leadership, and operational independence to address the threats facing their homeland on their own.
The U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon) announced today the official conclusion of the United States and its partners in the international coalition of "Operation Inherent Resolve" in Iraq.
Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Falah Al-Zaydi also sponsored the official ceremony on the occasion of Sovereignty Day and the conclusion of the international coalition's mission to combat ISIS in Iraq, emphasizing: No weapon outside the umbrella of the law, and no power outside the institutions of the state, in accordance with the constitution and as called for by our wise reference and what our people desire.
