Eight Arab and Islamic countries today (Tuesday) called on Israel to immediately adhere to its commitments under the first phase of the comprehensive plan regarding Gaza, emphasizing the necessity of establishing a ceasefire and ensuring the unhindered and immediate safe delivery of humanitarian aid and early recovery supplies to the sector, as well as facilitating the rehabilitation of vital infrastructure.
The eight countries, during a meeting of the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Turkey, in New York yesterday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, stressed the importance of adhering to the ceasefire and ending all violations.
The ministers clarified in a statement issued today that the roadmap is an integral part of the comprehensive plan, providing a framework for implementing its second phase, including the disarmament coinciding with the complete Israeli withdrawal, the deployment of an international stability force, the national committee's assumption of its responsibilities throughout the Gaza Strip, and the initiation of early recovery and reconstruction operations across the sector.
The ministers called on all parties to fulfill their commitments, each in their respective capacity, in good faith and without delay, reiterating their firm rejection of any measures aimed at expelling the Palestinian people or forcibly displacing them from their homeland, or any attempts to alter the geographic or demographic character of the occupied Palestinian land.
The eight countries condemned the illegal measures aimed at entrenching Israeli control and annexation, including the acceleration of settlement expansion, land confiscation, the demolition of Palestinian homes, settler violence and terrorism, and forced displacement, stressing the need to immediately halt and reverse these actions.
The eight countries also expressed deep concern over measures that undermine the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, welcoming the recent measures taken by the United Kingdom, as well as broader national and European efforts in response to illegal Israeli settlement activities, including measures aimed at halting trade with illegal Israeli settlements, and calling for further effective measures to stop settlement expansion and ensure accountability for acts of settler violence.
They affirmed that the Gaza Strip must remain an integral part of Palestinian land, emphasizing that the implementation of the comprehensive plan should contribute to the reunification of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, leading to a reliable and irreversible path towards the Palestinian people's exercise of their right to self-determination, and the establishment of a sovereign, viable, and independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, through the implementation of the two-state solution.
The ministers called for sustained and effective American engagement to ensure that all parties, including Israel, fulfill their commitments and obligations, and to overcome the obstacles hindering the implementation of the roadmap, emphasizing that achieving tangible progress on the ground will enhance the credibility of the Peace Council and the effectiveness of the plan, creating the much-needed momentum.
The ministers reiterated their readiness to continue working collectively with the United States, the Peace Council, the Palestinian Authority, and all relevant parties to advance the full implementation of the comprehensive plan and its roadmap, alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, fulfill their right to self-determination and establish their independent state, and achieve a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the region.
