Reuters revealed today (Tuesday) the claims promoted by the Revolutionary Guard, stating that it targeted an airbase in Jordan two weeks ago, indicating that the footage published is from the crash of a Greek fighter jet during an airshow last September.
The agency mentioned that contrary to posts on social media claiming to document scenes of Iran targeting an airbase in Jordan at the end of last month, the video shows thick black smoke in an open area where other aircraft are stationed. A Facebook post described it as footage of an Iranian bombing of the Muwaffaq Salti base in Jordan, coinciding with the announcement by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on August 31 of launching ballistic missile attacks on the King Hussein and Al-Azraq (Muwaffaq Salti) American bases in Jordan, in response to an American attack on the Iranian island of Lark.
The agency added: However, the video depicts another incident involving the crash of a Greek fighter jet during an airshow in Greece about two weeks ago.
Reuters published a circulating image showing smoke rising after the crash of the (F-4 Phantom) fighter jet during the aviation week at the Tanagra Air Base north of Athens.
The Greek Air Force stated in a statement that an "F-4E Phantom II" aircraft participating in the airshow "Athens Aviation Week 2026" crashed, resulting in the deaths of the two pilots on board.
An American official responded to Reuters' inquiry about the occurrence of an attack, saying: "No damage occurred at American bases."
