Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned of "hybrid" Russian attacks targeting NATO member states, emphasizing that "consistent and convincing" intelligence estimates indicate Moscow is planning drone and missile strikes against Ukraine's allies.
Tusk stated yesterday (Thursday) that the potential attacks could aim to cripple NATO countries' capabilities or weaken their resolve to activate the alliance's collective defense provisions in the event one of its members is attacked, as European fears grow over the escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
European countries accuse Moscow of being behind a series of sabotage acts in recent months, aimed at exerting pressure on nations supporting Kyiv, particularly Germany, while the Kremlin vehemently denies these accusations.
The Polish warnings coincided with ongoing military escalation, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced new talks with the United States that will address the prospects for a peaceful resolution to the war, along with issues related to energy, food security, and weapons, confirming that Kyiv will receive new aid packages, especially in the field of air defense.
The United States announced its approval to transfer 10 Patriot interceptor missiles from Germany to Ukraine, at a cost of $29 million, as part of assistance aimed at strengthening Ukrainian air defenses.
On the ground, Kyiv Governor Tymur Tkachенко reported that five people, including three children, were injured due to a Russian drone attack targeting the area surrounding the Ukrainian capital, while air raid sirens sounded in Odesa following an explosion.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the targeting of a logistics center belonging to "Nova Poshta" near Odesa, which it claimed was used for storing and distributing European military equipment, in addition to a cargo ship in the port of Chernomorsk, which it said was transporting military supplies.
In contrast, the Russian defense ministry reported the destruction of 629 Ukrainian drones over the past night in several Russian regions, while Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that air defenses had intercepted more than 350 drones targeting Moscow and its suburbs from Thursday evening until Friday morning.
