The Yemeni Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Mukhtar Al-Yafai, warned of the serious repercussions of the military escalation and the arbitrary practices carried out by the Houthi terrorist militia in the governorates of Taiz and Al-Hudaydah, noting that these violations have led to the disruption of the work of local and international organizations operating in humanitarian and relief fields, due to the increasing fear for the safety of their field teams.
Hijacking and Violation of UN Offices
Al-Yafai confirmed in a statement to "Okaz" that the continued targeting of international and local organizations by the Houthi terrorist militia, including UN offices through the arrest and enforced disappearance of employees, storming of offices, looting of property, and seizure of vehicles, constitutes a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian charters.
He added that these actions confirm the militia's complete disregard for the lives of civilians or the sanctity of humanitarian work, exacerbating the humanitarian disaster and the suffering of the Yemeni people, a large segment of whom relies on international aid.
International Responsibility That Cannot Remain Silent
The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor clarified that the militia's direct targeting of civilians and children, along with the continued killings and harassment of humanitarian staff, obstructs the delivery of support to the most vulnerable groups, placing the international community and the United Nations before an urgent moral and legal responsibility that requires a firm stance to end the policy of complacency and silence regarding these crimes.
Al-Yafai called for the necessity of swift international action to provide full protection for humanitarian workers and to ensure a suitable environment for organizations to operate free from extortion and Houthi interventions, while pursuing and holding accountable those involved in these violations according to international laws.
Protecting Humanitarian Work from Extortion
In conclusion, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor emphasized the commitment of the Yemeni government to continue coordination and joint work with the United Nations and international partners to enhance the protection of civilians, facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid in liberated areas, and ensure the dignity of the Yemeni people and the protection of relief work from political exploitation and manipulation.
