توفي ملك النرويج هارالد الخامس، (الجمعة)، عن عمر ناهز 89 عاماً، بعد تدهور حاد في حالته الصحية خلال الأيام الماضية، لتنتهي مسيرة استمرت أكثر من 35 عاماً على عرش النرويج، بوصفه أكبر ملوك أوروبا سناً عند وفاته.
وأعلن القصر الملكي النرويجي وفاة الملك هارالد في مستشفى جامعة أوسلو، حيث فارق الحياة بهدوء في الساعة 6:35 صباحاً بالتوقيت المحلي، وسط وجود أفراد من عائلته إلى جواره.
وكان الملك قد دخل المستشفى في 17 أغسطس الجاري، بعد معاناته من مشكلات صحية، قبل أن تتدهور حالته بصورة كبيرة خلال الأيام الأخيرة، وأعلن القصر الملكي الخميس أن وضعه الصحي أصبح «بالغ الخطورة».
هارالد.. أطول ملوك أوروبا سناً
ولد هارالد الخامس في 21 فبراير 1937، وتولى عرش النرويج عام 1991 عقب وفاة والده الملك أولاف الخامس، ليصبح رأس الدولة النرويجية لأكثر من ثلاثة عقود.
وخلال فترة حكمه، اكتسب هارالد شعبية واسعة، وعُرف بأسلوبه المتواضع وخطاباته التي ركزت على الوحدة والتسامح والانفتاح، كما ارتبط اسمه بمحاولات تحديث المؤسسة الملكية وتقريبها من المجتمع النرويجي.
وكان هارالد أيضاً رياضياً بارزاً، وشارك في مسابقات الإبحار في دورات الألعاب الأولمبية في طوكيو عام 1964 ومكسيكو سيتي عام 1968 وميونيخ عام 1972، قبل أن يواصل اهتمامه بالرياضة والأنشطة البحرية طوال حياته.
رفض التنازل عن العرش
وعلى الرغم من تراجع حالته الصحية وتكرار دخوله المستشفى خلال السنوات الأخيرة، تمسك هارالد الخامس بالبقاء على العرش، ورفض فكرة التنازل عنه.
وكان قد قال في وقت سابق إنه أقسم على خدمة بلاده طوال حياته، ولذلك لا يرى نفسه متجهاً إلى التنازل عن العرش. وفي عام 2024 أعلن أنه سيقلل من مشاركاته في المناسبات الرسمية بسبب وضعه الصحي، لكنه لم يطرح خيار التنحي.
وشهدت السنوات الأخيرة تدهوراً صحياً متكرراً للملك، من بينها إصابته بعدوى خلال رحلة خاصة إلى ماليزيا عام 2024، حيث خضع لتركيب جهاز تنظيم ضربات قلب مؤقت، قبل أن يتم تركيب جهاز دائم له لاحقاً في النرويج.
من يخلف هارالد الخامس؟
ينتقل العرش النرويجي إلى نجله ولي العهد هاكون، الذي تولى بالفعل بعض مهام والده خلال فترة مرضه الأخيرة بصفته وصياً على العرش.
وكان هاكون قد ألغى، إلى جانب والدته الملكة سونيا، عدداً من ارتباطاته الرسمية خلال الأيام الماضية للبقاء إلى جوار الملك في المستشفى.
ومن المنتظر أن تعقد الحكومة النرويجية اجتماعاً استثنائياً لمجلس الدولة في القصر الملكي مع الملك الجديد، وفق ما أعلن مكتب رئيس الوزراء.

The Norwegian royal palace announced the death of King Harald at Oslo University Hospital, where he peacefully passed away at 6:35 AM local time, with family members by his side.
The king had been hospitalized on August 17 due to health issues, before his condition significantly deteriorated in recent days, and the royal palace announced on Thursday that his health status had become "critical".
Harald... The Oldest Monarch in Europe
Harald V was born on February 21, 1937, and ascended to the throne of Norway in 1991 following the death of his father, King Olav V, becoming the head of the Norwegian state for over three decades.
During his reign, Harald gained widespread popularity, known for his humble demeanor and speeches that focused on unity, tolerance, and openness. His name was also associated with efforts to modernize the monarchy and bring it closer to Norwegian society.
Harald was also a prominent athlete, participating in sailing competitions at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, Mexico City in 1968, and Munich in 1972, before continuing his interest in sports and maritime activities throughout his life.
Refusal to Abdicate the Throne
Despite his declining health and repeated hospitalizations in recent years, Harald V insisted on remaining on the throne and rejected the idea of abdicating.
He had previously stated that he swore to serve his country for his entire life, and therefore did not see himself heading towards abdication. In 2024, he announced that he would reduce his participation in official events due to his health condition, but he did not propose the option of stepping down.
In recent years, the king experienced recurring health issues, including an infection during a private trip to Malaysia in 2024, where he underwent the installation of a temporary pacemaker, before a permanent device was later implanted in Norway.
Who Will Succeed Harald V?
The Norwegian throne will pass to his son, Crown Prince Haakon, who has already taken on some of his father's duties during his recent illness as regent.
Haakon, along with his mother, Queen Sonja, had canceled several of his official engagements in recent days to remain by the king's side in the hospital.
The Norwegian government is expected to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Council of State at the royal palace with the new king, as announced by the Prime Minister's office.
