من جانب واحد، أعلن الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي موافقة نظيره الأمريكي دونالد ترمب على منح بلاده تراخيص لإنتاج صواريخ اعتراضية لمنظومة باتريوت، في خطوة قد تساعد كييف على زيادة إنتاجها المحلي من صواريخ الدفاع الجوي التي تقول إنها بحاجة ماسة إليها.
وقال زيلينسكي، أمس (الثلاثاء) في مقابلة مع مقدم شبكة «فوكس نيوز» شون هانيتي: «عقدنا اليوم اجتماعاً جيداً جداً مع الرئيس ترمب. وقد وافق على منحنا التراخيص».
وأضاف في منشور على منصة «إكس» أنهما ناقشا تعزيز الدفاعات الجوية الأوكرانية في مواجهة الهجمات الصاروخية الروسية.
وكتب: «ناقشتُ مع الرئيس تراخيص إنتاج صواريخ باتريوت الاعتراضية وعدة أفكار أخرى يمكن أن تساعد».
وتعد منظومات باتريوت الوسيلة الدفاعية الفعالة الوحيدة التي تمتلكها أوكرانيا للتصدي للصواريخ الباليستية الروسية.
وكان زيلينسكي كشف في وقت سابق من هذا العام، أن بلاده تعاني نقصاً حاداً في الصواريخ الاعتراضية، في وقت أدت الحملة العسكرية الأمريكية ضد إيران إلى زيادة الضغط على الإمدادات العالمية منها.
وفي وقت سابق من هذا الشهر، قال ترمب إن «كييف ستحصل على إذن لإنتاج صواريخ لمنظومة الدفاع الجوي باتريوت» في أوكرانيا. وأضاف بعد لقائه زيلينسكي على هامش قمة لحلف شمال الأطلسي (ناتو) في أنقرة: «أعتقد أننا سنبرم هذه الصفقة. سنمنحكم ترخيصاً لتصنيع صواريخ باتريوت».
واستمر اجتماع (الثلاثاء)، الذي عُقد خلف أبواب مغلقة، نحو ساعة، وفقاً لوسائل إعلام أمريكية. وقال ترمب على منصته «تروث سوشيال» إن الاجتماع سار «بشكل جيد جداً»، فيما وصفه زيلينسكي أيضاً بأنه «جيد جداً» خلال مقابلة «فوكس نيوز».
On one side, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that his American counterpart Donald Trump agreed to grant his country licenses to produce interceptor missiles for the Patriot system, a step that could help Kyiv increase its domestic production of air defense missiles that it says it urgently needs.
Zelensky said yesterday (Tuesday) in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity: "We had a very good meeting today with President Trump. He agreed to grant us the licenses."
He added in a post on the platform "X" that they discussed enhancing Ukraine's air defenses in the face of Russian missile attacks.
He wrote: "I discussed with the president the licenses for producing Patriot interceptor missiles and several other ideas that could help."
The Patriot systems are the only effective defensive means Ukraine has to counter Russian ballistic missiles.
Zelensky had revealed earlier this year that his country is experiencing a severe shortage of interceptor missiles, as the U.S. military campaign against Iran has increased pressure on global supplies of them.
Earlier this month, Trump said that "Kyiv will get permission to produce missiles for the Patriot air defense system" in Ukraine. He added after meeting Zelensky on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Ankara: "I think we will finalize this deal. We will grant you a license to manufacture Patriot missiles."
The meeting on Tuesday, which was held behind closed doors, lasted about an hour, according to U.S. media. Trump said on his platform "Truth Social" that the meeting went "very well," while Zelensky also described it as "very good" during the Fox News interview.
