انتقد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، رئيسة الوزراء الإيطالية جورجيا ميلوني لرفضها تقديم المساعدة لبلاده خلال الحرب مع إيران، لكنه وصفها بأنها «شخصية لطيفة».
وقال ترمب، في تصريحات للصحفيين خلال حضوره قمة حلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو) في تركيا، إن علاقته بميلوني تدهورت بعض الشيء لأنها رفضت مساعدة الولايات المتحدة في ملف إيران، مضيفاً: «رفضت التدخل، ما تسبب في توتر علاقتي بها بعض الشيء، لكنني معجب بها، في الواقع هي شخصية لطيفة، ولكنني أيضاً أعتقد أنها أخطأت».
واعتبر ترمب موقفها سبباً في تراجع مستوى العلاقة بينهما.
وشهدت العلاقة بين ترمب وميلوني توتراً خلال الأسابيع الماضية، خصوصاً عندما قال ترمب إن ميلوني توسلت إليه لالتقاط صورة معه خلال قمة مجموعة السبع G7 في فرنسا، وهو ما نفته رئيسة الوزراء الإيطالية واتهمته بـ«اختلاق الرواية».
وانتقدت ميلوني الرئيس الأمريكي ترمب، خلال العام الحالي، بسبب هجومه على بابا الفاتيكان ليو الرابع عشر، إثر تنديده بالحرب على إيران، فيما انتقدها الرئيس الأمريكي لرفضها المساعدة في إعادة فتح مضيق هرمز.
ورفضت إيطاليا في مارس السماح لطائرات عسكرية أمريكية بالهبوط في قاعدة «سيجونيلا» الجوية في صقلية قبل توجهها إلى الشرق الأوسط، مبررة ذلك بعدم حصول واشنطن على إذن مسبق من الحكومة الإيطالية.
وتصاعدت حدة التوتر قبيل اجتماع قادة حلف شمال الأطلسي في تركيا، بعدما نشر ترمب على منصة «تروث سوشال» صورة لميلوني مرفقة بتعليق «مطلوب أمر منع اقتراب»، في إشارة ساخرة إلى أنها تلاحقه.
U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni today (Tuesday) for her refusal to provide assistance to his country during the war with Iran, but he described her as a "nice person."
Trump stated in remarks to reporters while attending the NATO summit in Turkey that his relationship with Meloni has deteriorated somewhat because she refused to help the United States regarding Iran, adding: "She refused to intervene, which has caused some tension in my relationship with her, but I admire her; in fact, she is a nice person, but I also think she made a mistake."
Trump considered her stance as a reason for the decline in their relationship.
The relationship between Trump and Meloni has been tense in recent weeks, especially when Trump claimed that Meloni begged him for a photo during the G7 summit in France, which the Italian Prime Minister denied and accused him of "fabricating the story."
Meloni criticized President Trump earlier this year for his attack on Pope Leo XIII following his condemnation of the war on Iran, while Trump criticized her for refusing to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Italy refused in March to allow U.S. military planes to land at the Sigonella airbase in Sicily before heading to the Middle East, justifying this by stating that Washington did not obtain prior permission from the Italian government.
Tensions escalated ahead of the NATO leaders' meeting in Turkey after Trump posted on the "Truth Social" platform a picture of Meloni accompanied by the caption "No Trespassing Order," in a sarcastic reference to her allegedly pursuing him.
