أعلن الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون التزام بلاده بدعم سورية ذات سيادة وموحدة، وذلك عقب وصوله إلى العاصمة السورية دمشق مساء اليوم (الإثنين) في زيارة هي الأولى لرئيس دولة غربية كبرى منذ تولي الرئيس أحمد الشرع السلطة أواخر العام 2024، عقب الإطاحة بحكم الرئيس المخلوع بشار الأسد.
وقال ماكرون في تصريحات له: «أتيت لأؤكد التزام فرنسا بالوقوف إلى جانب الشعب السوري من أجل سورية ذات سيادة موحدة بتعدديتها وتنعم بالسلام مع جيرانها، فلنفتح معاً صفحة جديدة من الاستقرار والسلام».

وذكر قصر الإليزيه للصحفيين أن ماكرون خلال زيارته التي ستستمر حتى الثلاثاء إلى «سورية حرة وتعددية تحترم جميع مكوناتها، وتضطلع بدور في تهدئة التوترات في الشرق الأوسط».
وحرص قصر الإليزيه على التكتم على توقيت الزيارة قبل هبوط طائرته، وبحسب وسائل إعلام غربية فإن الأمر يعود إلى أسباب أمنية على الأرجح.
وكان وزير الخارجية والمغتربين السوري أسعد الشيباني في استقبال الرئيس ماكرون والوفد المرافق له لدى وصولهم إلى مطار دمشق الدولي.

وتجسد الزيارة انتقال العلاقات السورية-الفرنسية إلى مرحلة جديدة تقوم على الاحترام المتبادل والشراكة المتكافئة، وفقاً لوكالة الأنباء السورية (سانا).
ومع طي صفحة النظام البائد وبدء العهد الجديد في دمشق، تسارعت عجلة الانفتاح بين دمشق وباريس لتبلغ ذروتها مع الإعلان عن زيارة للرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون إلى سورية، وصفتها بعض وسائل الإعلام الفرنسية بالتاريخية، والتي قد تشكل نقطة تحول لفتح الباب أمام شراكة إستراتيجية جديدة تنهي حقبة طويلة من العزلة والقطيعة.
وكان الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع قد زار فرنسا في 7 مايو العام الماضي، بدعوة من نظيره الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون الذي أكد حينها دعم بلاده لسيادة سورية ووحدة أراضيها، معرباً عن عزمه العمل لرفع جميع العقوبات الأوروبية.
في حين شدد الرئيس الشرع خلال زيارته إلى باريس على حرص سورية على توطيد أواصر الصداقة بما يخدم المصالح المشتركة للشعبين.
يذكر أن آخر زيارة لرئيس فرنسي إلى سورية كانت في عام 2009، حيث زار الرئيس السابق نيكولا ساركوزي دمشق، قبل قطيعة بين البلدين أعقبت قمع الحكم السابق الدامي للاحتجاجات التي اندلعت عام 2011، وسرعان ما تحولت إلى نزاع مدمر أسفر عن مقتل أكثر من نصف مليون شخص.

The Élysée Palace was keen to keep the timing of the visit under wraps before his plane landed, and according to Western media, this is likely due to security reasons.
Syrian Foreign Minister and Expatriates Asaad al-Shibani welcomed President Macron and his accompanying delegation upon their arrival at Damascus International Airport.

The visit embodies a transition in Syrian-French relations to a new phase based on mutual respect and equal partnership, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
With the end of the fallen regime and the beginning of a new era in Damascus, the pace of opening up between Damascus and Paris has accelerated, reaching its peak with the announcement of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Syria, which some French media described as historic, and which could represent a turning point for opening the door to a new strategic partnership that ends a long era of isolation and estrangement.
Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara had visited France on May 7 of last year, at the invitation of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, who at that time affirmed his country's support for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, expressing his intention to work towards lifting all European sanctions.
During his visit to Paris, President al-Shara emphasized Syria's keenness to strengthen the bonds of friendship in a way that serves the common interests of both peoples.
It is worth noting that the last visit by a French president to Syria was in 2009, when former President Nicolas Sarkozy visited Damascus, before a rupture between the two countries followed the violent repression of protests that erupted in 2011, which quickly escalated into a devastating conflict that resulted in the deaths of more than half a million people.
