فيما يعقد قادة شمال الأطلسي (الناتو) قمتهم في تركيا يومي الثلاثاء والأربعاء القادمين، صعّد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب من انتقاداته لحلف «الناتو» خلال اليومين الماضيين.
وكرر ترمب التأكيد على أن الناتو لم يجلب فائدة كبيرة إلى بلاده، على الرغم من تحملها عبء النفقات الأعلى على الإطلاق بين جميع الدول.
وتتخوف الدول الأعضاء في حلف الناتو من اتخاذ إدارة ترمب خطوات إضافية في سحب المزيد من القوات الأمريكية من أوروبا.
من جهته، نقلت وكالة «رويترز» عن مصدر مطلع قوله: إن واشنطن ستخفض عدد مقاتلاتها المُخصصة للناتو بمقدار الثلث، ليصل إلى 99 طائرة، كما ستُخفض عدد الطائرات المسيّرة إلى النصف ليبلغ 12 طائرة.
ويتوقع أن يتراجع عدد طائرات التَّزوُّد بالوقود إلى 63 طائرة، والقاذفات الإستراتيجية إلى النصف، والأمر عينه ينطبق على المدمرات التي ستتراجع إلى النصف (9 مدمرات).
في حين ستخصص البحرية الأمريكية حاملة طائرات واحدة، بينما ستسحب الغواصة الوحيدة القادرة على حمل صواريخ كروز.
وأعرب وزير الخارجية الألماني السابق يوشكا فيشر عن شكوكه في استمرار الولايات المتحدة تحت قيادة ترمب ضمن الحلف الأطلسي. وقال فيشر /78 عاما/ في تصريحات لصحف مجموعة «فونكه» الألمانية الإعلامية: الأمريكيون في طريقهم إلى الخروج، داعياً إلى أن يواصل الحلفاء المتبقون عمل التحالف من دون أمريكا في حال حدوث ذلك، وأن يقيموا مظلة ردع نووي بالاعتماد على الأسلحة النووية لكل من فرنسا وبريطانيا.
ومن المقرر أن يعقد قادة الناتو قمة في العاصمة التركية اعتباراً من يوم الثلاثاء، على أن يحضرها ترمب في زيارة ستكون الأولى له إلى أنقرة.
As NATO leaders hold their summit in Turkey on the upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump has intensified his criticisms of the alliance over the past two days.
Trump reiterated that NATO has not brought significant benefits to his country, despite it bearing the highest burden of expenses among all nations.
NATO member countries are concerned that the Trump administration may take further steps to withdraw more U.S. troops from Europe.
For its part, Reuters reported from a knowledgeable source that Washington will reduce the number of fighter jets allocated to NATO by a third, bringing it down to 99 aircraft, and will cut the number of drones in half to 12 aircraft.
The number of refueling aircraft is expected to decrease to 63, and strategic bombers will also be halved, with the same applying to destroyers, which will be reduced to half (9 destroyers).
Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy will allocate one aircraft carrier, while the sole submarine capable of carrying cruise missiles will be withdrawn.
Former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer expressed his doubts about the continuation of the United States under Trump's leadership within the NATO alliance. Fischer, 78, stated in remarks to the Funke media group: "The Americans are on their way out," urging that the remaining allies continue the alliance's work without America if that happens, and that they establish a nuclear deterrent umbrella relying on the nuclear weapons of both France and Britain.
NATO leaders are scheduled to hold a summit in the Turkish capital starting Tuesday, which Trump will attend in what will be his first visit to Ankara.
