كشفت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال»، أن وزير الحرب بيت هيجسيث ورئيس هيئة الأركان المشتركة الجنرال دان كاين أقنعا الرئيس دونالد ترمب، الذي بدا مترددا، بضرورة تنفيذ عمل عسكري ضد إيران، ردا على إسقاط الطائرة الهجومية «أباتشي».
انتهاء العملية الأمريكية ضد إيران
وشنت الولايات المتحدة، الثلاثاء، سلسلة ضربات عسكرية ضد أهداف إيرانية في عملية استمرت عدة ساعات. وأعلنت القيادة المركزية «سنتكوم» انتهاء العملية، مؤكدة في بيان أن الضربات جاءت «رداً متناسباً» على الهجمات الأخيرة التي استهدفت القوات الأمريكية والسفن التجارية الدولية العابرة للمياه الإقليمية.
ووفقاً لمسؤول أمريكي، نفذت الولايات المتحدة 3 موجات من الهجمات، استهدفت الدفاعات الجوية الإيرانية ومواقع الرادار بالقرب من مضيق هرمز.
وأفصح مسؤولون أمريكيون أن ترمب لم يكن مقتنعاً بضرورة الرد على إيران، وقلل من شأن الحادثة، مردداً مراراً أنه «ليس بالأمر الجلل»، ومؤكداً أن الطيارين لم يُصابوا بجروح خطيرة. وأضافوا أن ترمب «غير رأيه بعد أن أوصى هيجسيث والجنرال دان كاين بالتدخل العسكري خلال إحاطة في البيت الأبيض. وقدم هيجسيث وكاين لترمب معلومات محدثة عن طائرة شاهد الإيرانية المسيرة التي أصابت المروحية الأمريكية.
ورجح المسؤولون أن طائرة الأباتشي أُصيبت بطائرة مسيرة قبالة سواحل عُمان أثناء قيامها بدورية في المنطقة.
استهداف غير متعمد
وذكر مسؤولون إيرانيون أن طهران لم تستهدف المروحية عمداً، رغم أنها تُطلق طائرات مسيرة على سفن تجارية تُنسق مع الولايات المتحدة لعبور الممر المائي.
وأفاد المتحدث باسم القيادة المركزية الأمريكية الكابتن تيم هوكينز بأن طاقم الأباتشي أمضى ساعتين في الماء مع حلول الظلام، فيما وصف مسؤول أمريكي رفيع المستوى نجاة طاقم الطائرة المحطمة بأنها معجزة.
وأفادت سنتكوم بأنه مع توفير طائرات MQ-9 ريبر الأمريكية بدون طيار وطائرات مقاتلة غطاءً جوياً، تم إنقاذ أفراد الطاقم بواسطة زورق مُسير عن بُعد.
The Wall Street Journal revealed that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine convinced President Donald Trump, who appeared hesitant, of the necessity to carry out military action against Iran in response to the downing of the Apache attack helicopter.
End of the American Operation Against Iran
The United States launched a series of military strikes against Iranian targets on Tuesday in an operation that lasted several hours. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the conclusion of the operation, confirming in a statement that the strikes were a "proportional response" to recent attacks targeting American forces and international commercial vessels transiting the territorial waters.
According to an American official, the United States executed three waves of attacks, targeting Iranian air defenses and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz.
American officials disclosed that Trump was not convinced of the necessity to respond to Iran and downplayed the incident, repeatedly stating that it was "not a big deal," and emphasizing that the pilots were not seriously injured. They added that Trump "changed his mind after Hegseth and General Dan Caine recommended military intervention during a briefing at the White House. Hegseth and Caine provided Trump with updated information about the Iranian Shahed drone that struck the American helicopter.
Officials speculated that the Apache was hit by a drone off the coast of Oman while on patrol in the area.
Unintentional Targeting
Iranian officials stated that Tehran did not intentionally target the helicopter, even though it was launching drones at commercial vessels coordinating with the United States to transit the waterway.
Captain Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for Central Command, reported that the Apache crew spent two hours in the water as darkness fell, while a senior American official described the survival of the crew of the downed aircraft as a miracle.
CENTCOM reported that with the provision of American MQ-9 Reaper drones and fighter jets providing air cover, the crew members were rescued by a remotely operated boat.
