فيما انطلقت المحادثات الأمنية في البنتاغون، ناقش الرئيس اللبناني جوزيف عون ووزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو اليوم (الجمعة) الأوضاع العامة في لبنان والمنطقة والتطورات الراهنة.
وأكد عون خلال اتصال هاتفي بوزير الخارجية الأمريكي ضرورة بذل كل الجهود الممكنة من أجل التوصل إلى وقف لإطلاق النار، باعتباره المدخل الأساسي للانتقال إلى أي خطوة أخرى، والممر الضروري لتهيئة الظروف المناسبة لمعالجة مختلف الملفات والقضايا المطروحة.
ونقلت الرئاسة اللبنانية عن روبيو تأكيده «التزام الإدارة الأمريكية والاستمرار في مساعيها لتثبيت مخرجات لقاءات واشنطن السابقة»، مشدداً على دعمه لاستقرار لبنان واستقلاله وسيادته على كامل أراضيه، وحقه الطبيعي والكامل في تقرير مصيره.
وذكرت مصادر لبنانية أن الوفد العسكري عقد اجتماعاً تحضيرياً أمس (الخميس) مع الفريق الأمريكي في البنتاغون، فيما بدأ اليوم المحادثات مع الجانب الإسرائيلي.
وأشارت المصادر إلى أن الوفد العسكري للمفاوضات يضم 6 ضباط برئاسة العميد الركن جورج رزق الله. وتركز المفاوضات الحالية على وقف إطلاق النار، كما سيتم وضع آلية تطوير لجنة مراقبة وقف الأعمال العدائية (الميكانيزم)، كما سيناقش إمكانية العمل الميداني للجيش اللبناني جنوبي البلاد.
وأشارت المصادر إلى أن الفريق الأمني اللبناني سيشدد على رفض إشراك إسرائيل في التعامل مع أي منطقة تجريبية خلال عملية الانتشار في جنوب البلاد.
في المقابل، أعلن رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو اليوم أن القوات الإسرائيلية عبرت نهر الليطاني في جنوب لبنان.
ونقلت صحيفة «تايمز أوف إسرائيل» أن نتنياهو قال خلال زيارة الحدود الشمالية: «قوات الفرقة 36 في الجيش الإسرائيلي عبرت نهر الليطاني، وتقدمت نحو مواقع استراتيجية جنوب لبنان»، مضيفاً: «نعمل أيضاً في بيروت، وكذلك في البقاع، وعلى امتداد الجبهة بأكملها».
As security talks began at the Pentagon, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as current developments today (Friday).
Aoun emphasized during a phone call with the U.S. Secretary of State the necessity of making every possible effort to reach a ceasefire, considering it the essential entry point for moving to any further steps, and the necessary passage to prepare the appropriate conditions for addressing various files and issues at hand.
The Lebanese presidency reported Rubio's affirmation of "the U.S. administration's commitment and continued efforts to solidify the outcomes of previous meetings in Washington," stressing his support for Lebanon's stability, independence, and sovereignty over its entire territory, as well as its natural and complete right to determine its own fate.
Lebanese sources indicated that the military delegation held a preparatory meeting yesterday (Thursday) with the American team at the Pentagon, while today the talks with the Israeli side began.
The sources noted that the military delegation for the negotiations includes 6 officers headed by Brigadier General George Rizkallah. The current negotiations focus on a ceasefire, and a mechanism for developing the ceasefire monitoring committee will be established, as well as discussing the possibility of the Lebanese army's field operations in the south of the country.
The sources indicated that the Lebanese security team will emphasize its rejection of involving Israel in dealing with any experimental area during the deployment process in the south of the country.
In contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today that Israeli forces crossed the Litani River in southern Lebanon.
The "Times of Israel" reported that Netanyahu stated during a visit to the northern border: "The 36th Division of the Israeli army crossed the Litani River and advanced towards strategic positions in southern Lebanon," adding, "We are also operating in Beirut, as well as in the Bekaa Valley, and along the entire front."
