تتواصل التحركات الدبلوماسية المكثفة في الشرق الأوسط وسط مؤشرات متزايدة على قرب التوصل إلى اتفاق بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران قد يضع حداً للحرب المستمرة منذ ثلاثة أشهر، ويمهد لإعادة فتح مضيق هرمز، أحد أهم الممرات الحيوية لإمدادات الطاقة العالمية.
وقال وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو، الإثنين، إن الاتفاق المحتمل قد يتحقق «اليوم»، مشيراً إلى وجود تقدم ملموس في المفاوضات الجارية بين الجانبين.
وأوضح روبيو، خلال تصريحات أدلى بها للصحفيين في العاصمة الهندية نيودلهي، أن هناك «طرحاً قوياً على الطاولة» يتعلق بإعادة فتح المضيق، مؤكداً أن المقترح يحظى بدعم واسع من دول الخليج.
وجاءت هذه التصريحات في وقت شهدت فيه الأسواق العالمية حالة من التفاؤل الحذر، حيث تراجعت أسعار النفط بشكل ملحوظ، وهبط خام برنت بنسبة 4.5% ليسجل 98.83 دولار للبرميل، وهو أدنى مستوى له خلال أسبوعين، بالتزامن مع ارتفاع الأسهم الآسيوية على خلفية توقعات بانفراجة سياسية قريبة.
وفي المقابل، حاول الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب تهدئة التوقعات، مؤكداً أن المفاوضات تسير بصورة منظمة وبناءة، لكنه أشار إلى أنه طلب من فريقه التفاوضي «عدم التسرع» في إبرام الاتفاق.
وكان مسؤولون في الشرق الأوسط قد كشفوا لوكالة أسوشيتد برس أن واشنطن باتت قريبة من التوصل إلى تفاهم مع طهران ينهي الحرب ويؤدي إلى إعادة فتح مضيق هرمز، الذي يمثل شرياناً أساسياً لتدفقات النفط العالمية.
وفي السياق ذاته، شدد ترمب على أن الحصار الأمريكي المفروض على السفن الإيرانية في مضيق هرمز سيظل سارياً بشكل كامل إلى حين التوصل إلى اتفاق نهائي يتم اعتماده وتوقيعه رسمياً، مضيفاً أن على الطرفين التمهل لضمان التوصل إلى صيغة صحيحة.
ومع تسرب تفاصيل أولية عن الاتفاق المرتقب، تصاعدت الانتقادات داخل الولايات المتحدة، حيث اعتبر وزير الخارجية الأمريكي الأسبق مايك بومبيو، أن الاتفاق لا يختلف كثيراً عن الاتفاق النووي المبرم عام 2015 في عهد الرئيس الأسبق باراك أوباما، والذي انسحب منه ترمب خلال ولايته الأولى.
من جهته، قال السيناتور الديمقراطي كريس فان هولن، إن الخطوط العريضة المتداولة للاتفاق تعني عملياً العودة إلى «الوضع الذي كان قائماً قبل الحرب» مع إيران.
وعلى الصعيد الميداني، أعلن الجيش الإسرائيلي مقتل جندي في جنوب لبنان، ما يرفع عدد قتلى الجيش الإسرائيلي إلى 23 منذ استئناف المواجهات في الثاني من مارس الماضي بين إسرائيل و«حزب الله» المدعوم من إيران.
وأوضح الجيش أن الجندي القتيل هو الرقيب نيهوراي لايزر، البالغ من العمر 19 عاماً، من الكتيبة الهندسية القتالية 601، مشيراً كذلك إلى إصابة جندي آخر بجروح خطيرة خلال الاشتباكات.
وفي ظل استمرار التوتر، أكد روبيو أن «لإسرائيل الحق دائماً في الدفاع عن نفسها»، مضيفاً أن أي هجمات صاروخية من جانب حزب الله تمنح إسرائيل الحق في الرد أو منع تلك الهجمات.
ورغم اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار الذي بدأ بين إسرائيل ولبنان في 16 أبريل بوساطة أمريكية، فإن الطرفين واصلا تبادل الضربات، فيما تشير تقارير إلى أن الاتفاق الأمريكي - الإيراني المحتمل قد يتضمن أيضاً وقف العمليات العسكرية الإسرائيلية داخل لبنان.
بدوره، أعلن رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو أن ترمب جدد دعمه لحق إسرائيل في الدفاع عن نفسها ضد التهديدات على جميع الجبهات، بما في ذلك لبنان.
Intensive diplomatic movements continue in the Middle East amid increasing signs of a near agreement between the United States and Iran that could put an end to the ongoing war for three months and pave the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most vital corridors for global energy supplies.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday that a potential agreement could be reached "today," indicating that there has been significant progress in the ongoing negotiations between the two sides.
Rubio explained during statements made to reporters in the Indian capital, New Delhi, that there is a "strong proposal on the table" regarding the reopening of the strait, confirming that the proposal has broad support from Gulf countries.
These statements came at a time when global markets experienced a cautious optimism, as oil prices fell significantly, with Brent crude dropping by 4.5% to record $98.83 per barrel, the lowest level in two weeks, coinciding with a rise in Asian stocks amid expectations of a near political breakthrough.
In contrast, U.S. President Donald Trump attempted to temper expectations, confirming that negotiations are proceeding in an organized and constructive manner, but he noted that he had asked his negotiating team to "not rush" into finalizing the agreement.
Middle Eastern officials revealed to the Associated Press that Washington is close to reaching an understanding with Tehran that would end the war and lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial artery for global oil flows.
In this context, Trump emphasized that the U.S. blockade on Iranian ships in the Strait of Hormuz will remain fully in effect until a final agreement is reached and officially signed, adding that both sides should take their time to ensure a correct formula is reached.
As initial details about the anticipated agreement leaked, criticisms within the United States intensified, with former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stating that the agreement is not much different from the nuclear deal reached in 2015 during former President Barack Obama's administration, from which Trump withdrew during his first term.
For his part, Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen stated that the outlines circulating for the agreement practically mean a return to "the situation that existed before the war" with Iran.
On the ground, the Israeli army announced the death of a soldier in southern Lebanon, raising the number of Israeli army fatalities to 23 since the resumption of clashes on March 2 between Israel and the Iran-backed "Hezbollah."
The army clarified that the deceased soldier is Sergeant Nehorai Leizer, 19 years old, from the 601st Combat Engineering Battalion, also noting that another soldier was seriously injured during the clashes.
Amid ongoing tensions, Rubio affirmed that "Israel has the right to defend itself at all times," adding that any rocket attacks from Hezbollah grant Israel the right to respond or prevent those attacks.
Despite the ceasefire agreement that began between Israel and Lebanon on April 16 under U.S. mediation, both sides continued to exchange strikes, while reports indicate that the potential U.S.-Iranian agreement may also include halting Israeli military operations inside Lebanon.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Trump renewed his support for Israel's right to defend itself against threats on all fronts, including Lebanon.
