أثار الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب موجة جدل جديدة بعد تصريحات ألمح فيها إلى أن كوبا قد تكون الهدف التالي لسياسات واشنطن، عقب انتهاء العملية العسكرية الجارية ضد إيران.
وخلال فعالية في البيت الأبيض، توجّه ترمب بالحديث إلى وزير الخارجية ماركو روبيو، مشيداً بأدائه، خصوصاً في ما يتعلق بملف كوبا، في إشارة فسّرها مراقبون على أنها تمهيد لتحركات سياسية أو عسكرية محتملة تجاه الجزيرة الكاريبية.
وقال ترمب إن الإدارة الأمريكية تركز حالياً على إنهاء العملية العسكرية ضد إيران أولاً، قبل الانتقال إلى ملفات أخرى، مضيفاً: «نريد إنهاء هذا الأمر، ثم سنرى ما سيحدث لاحقاً».
وفي حديثه إلى روبيو، الذي ينحدر من أصول كوبية، لمح ترمب إلى مستقبل مختلف للجزيرة، قائلاً إن الأمر «مسألة وقت فقط» قبل أن يعود كثير من الكوبيين إلى بلادهم، في تصريح أثار تساؤلات واسعة حول نوايا واشنطن القادمة.
وتأتي هذه التصريحات في وقت كشفت فيه تقارير إعلامية، بينها مجلة The Atlantic، أن دوائر داخل الإدارة الأمريكية تدرس بالفعل خيارات أكثر تشدداً تجاه كوبا، مستندة إلى ما تعتبره نجاحاً لسياسات الضغط التي مارستها واشنطن ضد خصومها في المنطقة.
وفي السياق نفسه، تطرّق ترمب إلى الوضع في فنزويلا، معتبراً أن الأمور تسير «بشكل جيد»، مشيراً إلى استمرار التعاون مع الحكومة هناك، خصوصاً في ملف النفط الذي قال إن الولايات المتحدة تحصل بموجبه على «مئات الملايين من البراميل» يتم إرسالها إلى مصافي التكرير الأمريكية.
وتعكس هذه التصريحات توجهاً أمريكياً يبدو أكثر جرأة في التعامل مع ملفات السياسة الخارجية، ما يفتح الباب أمام مرحلة جديدة من التصعيد الجيوسياسي قد تمتد من الشرق الأوسط إلى أمريكا اللاتينية.
U.S. President Donald Trump sparked a new wave of controversy after comments suggesting that Cuba could be the next target of Washington's policies, following the conclusion of the ongoing military operation against Iran.
During an event at the White House, Trump addressed Secretary of State Marco Rubio, praising his performance, particularly regarding the Cuba file, in a remark that observers interpreted as a prelude to potential political or military moves towards the Caribbean island.
Trump stated that the U.S. administration is currently focused on ending the military operation against Iran first, before moving on to other issues, adding: “We want to finish this matter, and then we will see what happens next.”
In his remarks to Rubio, who has Cuban roots, Trump hinted at a different future for the island, saying that it is “only a matter of time” before many Cubans return to their homeland, a statement that raised widespread questions about Washington's upcoming intentions.
These comments come at a time when media reports, including from The Atlantic magazine, revealed that circles within the U.S. administration are already considering more hardline options towards Cuba, based on what they view as a success of the pressure policies that Washington has exerted against its adversaries in the region.
In the same context, Trump addressed the situation in Venezuela, considering that things are going “well,” noting the ongoing cooperation with the government there, particularly regarding oil, which he said allows the United States to receive “hundreds of millions of barrels” sent to American refineries.
These statements reflect a seemingly bolder U.S. approach to handling foreign policy issues, opening the door to a new phase of geopolitical escalation that could extend from the Middle East to Latin America.
