أعلن الرئيس الكولومبي غوستافو بيترو، نجاته بأعجوبة من محاولة اغتيال مساء الإثنين الماضي، أثناء تنقله على متن مروحية في منطقة الكاريبي الكولومبية.
وقال بيترو، خلال جلسة مجلس الوزراء التي بُثت مباشرة، إن المروحية الرئاسية لم تتمكن من الهبوط في وجهتها المقررة بولاية كوردوبا، بعد ورود معلومات أمنية تفيد بأن «أشخاصاً غير محددين كانوا سيقومون بإطلاق النار على الطائرة».
الفرار إلى البحر لـ 4 ساعات
وأضاف أن الطاقم اضطر إلى التوجه نحو البحر المفتوح لمدة أربع ساعات تقريباً، حتى تمكن من الهبوط في مكان آمن آخر، واصفاً الواقعة بأنها «هربٌ من الموت».
وأشار الرئيس إلى أن هذه الحادثة تأتي بعد شهور من التحذيرات المتكررة بشأن وجود مخططات لاغتياله، نسبتها السلطات الكولومبية في أكثر من مناسبة إلى عصابات المخدرات وجماعات مسلحة معارضة لسياساته، خصوصاً سياسته في السلام الشامل ومحاولاته للتفاوض مع بعض الجماعات المسلحة.
محاولات متكررة لاغتياله
ويُعد غوستافو بيترو (مواليد 1960) أول رئيس يساري في تاريخ كولومبيا الحديث، وقد تولى السلطة في أغسطس 2022، ومنذ توليه الرئاسة، تعرض لعدة تهديدات علنية وسرية، وسبق أن أعلن عن وجود مخططات لاغتياله مرتبطة بتجار المخدرات والجماعات المسلحة التي تعارض سياساته في السلام والإصلاح الزراعي والاقتصادي.
وفي أكتوبر 2024، تحدث الرئيس عن معلومات استخباراتية تفيد بمحاولة إدخال صواريخ أرض-جو (SAM-16) إلى كولومبيا بهدف استهداف طائرته أثناء حضوره مؤتمر COP16 في مدينة كالي، وهو ما اضطره إلى تغيير طريقة وصوله إلى المدينة.
تهديد مسلح مستمر
ولا تزال كولومبيا تعاني من وجود جماعات مسلحة وكارتلات مخدرات نشطة، رغم اتفاق السلام مع فارك عام 2016، وتشهد البلاد تصاعداً في أعمال العنف السياسي والانتخابي خلال الفترة الأخيرة، خصوصاً مع اقتراب موعد الانتخابات الرئاسية القادمة.
ولم تصدر السلطات الأمنية الكولومبية حتى الآن بياناً رسمياً يؤكد أو ينفي وجود محاولة إطلاق نار فعلية على المروحية، لكنها أكدت أن الإجراءات الأمنية تم تفعيلها بناءً على معلومات استخباراتية جدية.
وطالب الرئيس بتعزيز التحقيقات لكشف الجهات المتورطة، محذراً من أن «الديمقراطية في كولومبيا لا تزال تواجه مخاطر حقيقية».
Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that he miraculously survived an assassination attempt last Monday evening while traveling aboard a helicopter in the Colombian Caribbean region.
During a live-broadcast cabinet meeting, Petro stated that the presidential helicopter was unable to land at its scheduled destination in Córdoba after receiving security information indicating that "unspecified individuals were going to open fire on the aircraft."
Fleeing to the Sea for 4 Hours
He added that the crew had to head out to open sea for approximately four hours until they were able to land in another safe location, describing the incident as a "flight from death."
The president noted that this incident comes after months of repeated warnings about plots to assassinate him, which Colombian authorities have attributed on several occasions to drug gangs and armed groups opposed to his policies, particularly his comprehensive peace policy and attempts to negotiate with some armed groups.
Repeated Assassination Attempts
Gustavo Petro (born 1960) is considered the first leftist president in Colombia's modern history, having taken office in August 2022. Since assuming the presidency, he has faced several public and secret threats, and he has previously announced the existence of assassination plots linked to drug traffickers and armed groups opposing his policies on peace and agrarian and economic reform.
In October 2024, the president spoke about intelligence information indicating an attempt to smuggle surface-to-air missiles (SAM-16) into Colombia to target his aircraft while he was attending the COP16 conference in Cali, which forced him to change his method of arrival in the city.
Ongoing Armed Threats
Colombia continues to suffer from the presence of active armed groups and drug cartels, despite the peace agreement with FARC in 2016. The country has witnessed an escalation in political and electoral violence recently, especially with the upcoming presidential elections.
Colombian security authorities have not yet issued an official statement confirming or denying the existence of an actual shooting attempt on the helicopter, but they have confirmed that security measures were activated based on serious intelligence information.
The president called for enhanced investigations to uncover the parties involved, warning that "democracy in Colombia still faces real dangers."
