أعلن البرلمان العراقي، اليوم(الثلاثاء)، تأجيل جلسة انتخاب رئيس الجمهورية، من دون تحديد موعد آخر لانعقادها. وأفاد بأنه تسلم طلباً من الحزبين الكرديين الرئيسيين بتأجيل جلسة انتخاب الرئيس الجديد .
وكان مصدر نيابي قال في وقت سابق إن عقد جلسة انتخاب رئيس الجمهورية بات مرهوناً بموافقة رئاسة مجلس النواب وتفاهم الكتل السياسية الكبرى ورأي مجلس القضاء الأعلى، مع اقتراب انتهاء المدة الدستورية، وسط ترجيحات بتأجيل الجلسة.
ولفت المصدر إلى وجود اتفاق بين الأحزاب الكوردية والإطار التنسيقي على التأجيل، مع إرسال استفسار إلى رئيس مجلس القضاء الأعلى فائق زيدان بشأن إمكانية عقد الجلسة لاحقاً.
وينص الدستور على انتخاب الرئيس خلال مدة لا تتجاوز 30 يوماً من تاريخ انعقاد الجلسة الأولى لمجلس النواب، وباحتساب هذه المدة من الجلسة الأولى التي عُقدت في 29 ديسمبر 2025، فإن السقف الزمني يقترب من ليل 28 يناير 2026.
وكان من المقرر أن يعقد مجلس النواب جلسة خاصة لانتخاب رئيس جديد للبلاد للسنوات الأربع القادمة هو السادس منذ تشكيل العملية السياسية بعد الإطاحة بالرئيس الراحل صدام حسين عام 2003.
ويتنافس على المنصب 19 مرشحاً نالوا موافقة البرلمان العراقي والمحكمة الاتحادية العليا بعد استيفائهم شروط الترشيح للمنصب وفق الدستور العراقي.
وينحصر التنافس بين مرشحين اثنين من بين جميع المتنافسين، وهما كل من فؤاد حسين مرشح الحزب الديمقراطي الكردستاني، ونزار أميدي مرشح حزب الاتحاد الوطني الكردستاني.
وأفصحت مصادر سياسية أن كلا الحزبين الديمقراطي الكردستاني بزعامة مسعود برزاني وحزب الاتحاد الوطني الكردستاني بزعامة بافل طلباني، لم يتفقا على تسمية مرشح توافقي واحد لشغل منصب رئيس الجمهورية كاستحقاق للمكون الكردي وفقاً لآلية توزيع المناصب العليا في العراق.
The Iraqi parliament announced today (Tuesday) the postponement of the session to elect the President of the Republic, without specifying another date for its convening. It stated that it received a request from the two main Kurdish parties to postpone the session for electing the new president.
A parliamentary source had previously said that holding the session to elect the President of the Republic has become contingent upon the approval of the Presidency of the Council of Representatives, the understanding of the major political blocs, and the opinion of the Supreme Judicial Council, with the constitutional deadline approaching, amid expectations of postponing the session.
The source pointed out that there is an agreement between the Kurdish parties and the Coordination Framework on the postponement, along with an inquiry sent to the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faik Zidan, regarding the possibility of holding the session later.
The constitution stipulates that the president must be elected within a period not exceeding 30 days from the date of the first session of the Council of Representatives. Calculating this period from the first session held on December 29, 2025, the deadline approaches the night of January 28, 2026.
The Council of Representatives was scheduled to hold a special session to elect a new president for the country for the next four years, which would be the sixth since the establishment of the political process following the overthrow of the late President Saddam Hussein in 2003.
Nineteen candidates have been approved by the Iraqi parliament and the Federal Supreme Court after meeting the nomination requirements for the position according to the Iraqi constitution.
The competition is limited to two candidates among all the competitors: Fuad Hussein, the candidate of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and Nizar Amidi, the candidate of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
Political sources revealed that neither the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Masoud Barzani, nor the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, led by Bafel Talabani, have agreed on naming a single consensus candidate to occupy the position of President of the Republic as a right for the Kurdish component according to the mechanism for distributing high positions in Iraq.
