انسحبت الولايات المتحدة رسمياً من منظمة الصحة العالمية، رغم تحذيرات على مدار عام من أن الخطوة ستضر بقطاع الصحة في أمريكا وعلى مستوى العالم، وقالت إن قرارها يأتي نتيجة لإخفاقات المنظمة التابعة للأمم المتحدة في إدارة الموقف خلال جائحة كوفيد-19.
وأعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب عبر أمر تنفيذي، أن الولايات المتحدة ستنسحب من منظمة الصحة العالمية في اليوم الأول من رئاسته عام 2025.
ووفقاً لبيان صحفي صادر عن وزارتي الصحة والخارجية الأمريكيتين، سيكون تعامل الولايات المتحدة مع منظمة الصحة العالمية في نطاق محدود من أجل التنفيذ الفعلي للانسحاب.
وذكرت الولايات المتحدة أنها تعتزم العمل مباشرة مع الدول الأخرى بدلاً من التعاون عبر منظمة دولية من أجل مراقبة الأمراض وغيرها من أولويات الصحة العامة.
فيما قال شهود عيان إن العلم الأمريكي أزيل من أمام مقر منظمة الصحة العالمية في جنيف يوم الخميس.
The United States has officially withdrawn from the World Health Organization, despite warnings over the past year that the move would harm the health sector in America and globally, stating that its decision comes as a result of the organization's failures in managing the situation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Donald Trump announced via an executive order that the United States will withdraw from the World Health Organization on the first day of his presidency in 2025.
According to a press release from the U.S. Departments of Health and State, the United States' dealings with the World Health Organization will be limited in scope to facilitate the actual withdrawal.
The United States stated that it intends to work directly with other countries instead of cooperating through an international organization for disease monitoring and other public health priorities.
Witnesses reported that the American flag was removed from in front of the World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva on Thursday.
