أكد الرئيس اللبناني جوزيف عون، اليوم (الأربعاء)، أن التفاوض مع إسرائيل هدفه تثبيت الأمن والاستقرار خصوصاً في الجنوب، ولا يعني استسلاماً.
وقال عون خلال استقباله رئيس الوفد إلى لجنة الرقابة الدولية الميكانيزم سيمون كرم إنه كرئيس للبنان سيسلك أي طريق يؤدي لمصلحة بلاده وإبعاد شبح الحرب وإعادة الإعمار وتثبيت الناس في أرضهم.
وتعقد لجنة الرقابة الدولية «الميكانيزم» الجمعة اجتماعاً لها، لمناقشة وقف إطلاق النار.
وتضم اللجنة التي تشرف على وقف إطلاق النار بين حزب الله وإسرائيل ممثلين للولايات المتحدة وفرنسا وقوة الأمم المتحدة (يونيفيل).
وكان الجيش اللبناني قد أطلع سفراء ومسؤولين عسكريين أجانب عدة على الجهود التي يبذلها لنزع سلاح حزب الله، وذلك خلال جولة ميدانية، في حين يسود لبنان تخوف من توسيع إسرائيل نطاق ضرباتها وتزايد الضغوط الدبلوماسية خصوصاً بعد القصف أمس، الذي أوقع قتلى جرحى.
The Lebanese President Joseph Aoun confirmed today (Wednesday) that the negotiations with Israel aim to establish security and stability, especially in the south, and do not mean surrender.
Aoun stated during his meeting with the head of the delegation to the International Monitoring Mechanism, Simon Karam, that as President of Lebanon, he will take any path that serves the interests of his country, distances the specter of war, facilitates reconstruction, and stabilizes people in their land.
The International Monitoring Committee "Mechanism" will hold a meeting on Friday to discuss the ceasefire.
The committee, which oversees the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, includes representatives from the United States, France, and the United Nations peacekeeping force (UNIFIL).
The Lebanese army had briefed several foreign ambassadors and military officials on the efforts it is making to disarm Hezbollah during a field tour, while Lebanon is experiencing fears of Israel expanding the scope of its strikes and increasing diplomatic pressures, especially after yesterday's shelling, which resulted in casualties and injuries.
